CHRIST IN THE

LAW;

OR,

THE GOSPEL FORESHADOWED IN THE PENTATEUCH.

OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.

"The author has apprehended, as it seems to us, the real spirit and the only true moral value of the Old Testament."-Saturday Review.

"We have already borne our testimony to the usefulness of its teaching, and the ability displayed in its compilation. It is just the book to have a place in a small library, as it contains in a condensed form much of the pith and marrow of larger, and in some cases, of very expensive volumes."-Church Times.

"Save Dr. Neale's 'Commentary on the Psalms' we do not know of any recent English work which contains so much sound and beautiful illustration of Scripture in a brief compass, and we strongly recommend it to our readers."-Union Review.

"A charming book, and one which we should be glad to see in every hand. In the most modest form it comprises more real teaching than many an ambitious treatise, and while full of patristic feeling and exegesis it never lets itself be run away with the mere love of allegorising, but is always sober, logical, and self-controlled. All this is high praise, but it is well deserved."- Literary Churchman.

"Written with singular accuracy, moderation, and judgment."- Church Review.

"In this volume an Anglican clergyman has drawn out, with the aid of the Fathers and of modern authors, the teaching of the types of our LORD and of the Church which are to be found in the Pentateuch. It is well and reverently done."-Tablet.

PREFACE.

THIS little Book, like its predecessor, is compiled from various sources, both ancient and modern.

The Jews divided the Old Testament into the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms; and the Prophets were again divided into the Former and the Latter Prophets, of which the Former contained the Books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and Kings.
