Introduction.

I hope the reader will indulge no antipathy against what I have said, under a supposition that I am prejudiced against the sex; some, it is true, may have this weakness for want of patiently examining the story, though to satisfy their minds I affirm, that the neighbourhood where Providence has cast my lot, is honoured with many good wives; women of more worth than many rubies, but I dare not say there are no imprudent ones.
