Barabbas releafed CHAP. behold how many things they witnefs against thee.

5 Fut Jefus yet answered nothing, fo that Pilate riarvelled.

6 how at that feaft he releafed unto them one priioner, whomfoever they defired.

7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made infurrection with him, who had committed murder in the infurrection.

8 And the multitude, crying alord, began to defire him to do as he bad ever done unto them.

But Pilate anfvered them, faying, Will ye that I releafe unto you the King of the Jews!

10 For he knew that the chief prients had delivered him for envy. II Put the chief priefs moved the people, that he fhould rather releafe Barabbas unto them.

Aud Pilate antwered, and faid again unto them, What willyethen that hall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

13 And they cried out again, Cruci him.

14 Then Pilate faid unto them, Why? what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

25 And it was the third hour; and they crucified him.

26 And the fuperfcription of his accufation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

28 And the icripture was fulfilled, which faith, And he was numbered with the tranfgreffors.

29 And they that paffed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and faying, Ah, thon that deftroyed the temple,and buildeft it in three day, 30 Save tbyfelf, and come down from the crofs.

3 Likewife alfo the chief priests, mocking, faid among them.elves, with the tribes, He faved others; himfelf he cannot fave.

2 And very early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came unto the fepulchre at the rifing of the fun.

3 And they faid among themfelves, Who fhall roll us away the ftone from the door of the fepulchre?

5 And, entering into the fepulchre, they faw a young man fitting on the right fide, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

6. And he faith unto them, Be not affrighted: ye feek Jefus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is rifen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

7 But go your way, tell his dif ciples and Peter, that he goeth before you into Galilee: there fhall ye fee him, as he said unto you.

8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the fepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither faid they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.

91 Now, when Jefus was rifen early, the first day of the week, he appeared firft to Mary Magdalene, outofwhom he had caft fevendevils.

36 And, behold, thy coufin Elifabeth, the hath alfo conceived a fon in her old age: and this is the fixth month with her who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing fhall be imposible.

The prophecy of Elifabeth. CHA P. I.

The nativity of John. 38 And Mary faid, Behold the 53 He hath filled the hungry with handmaid of the Lord; be it unto good things; and the rich he hath me according to thy word. And fent empty away. the angel departed from her.

39 And Mary arofe in thofe days, and went into the hill-country with hafte, into a city of Juda;

54 He hath holpen his fervant Ifrael, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he fpake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his feed for ever. 40 And entered into the house of 56 And Mary abode with her Zacharias, and faluted Elifabeth. about three months, and returned 41 Andit came to país, that when to her own house.

44 For, lo, as foon as the voice of thy falutation founded in mine ears the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

45 And bleffed fhe that believed: for there fhall be a performance of thofe things which were told her from the Lord.

46 And Mary faid, My foul doth magnify the Lord,

47 And my fpirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

48 For he hath regarded the low eftate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations fhall call me bleffed.

49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to genesation.

51 He hath fhewed ftrength with his arm he hath fcattered the proud in the imagination of their


52 He hath put down the mighty from their feats, and exalted them of low degree.

58 And her neighbours and her coufins heard how the Lord had fhewed great mercy upon and they rejoiced with her.


59 Andit came to pals,that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

60 And his mother anfwered and faid, Not fo; but he fhall be called John.

61 And they faid unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

62 And they made figns to his father how he would have him called.

63 And he afked for a writingtable, and wrote, faying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loofed, and he fpake and praited God.

65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them:andallthefe fayings were noifed abroad throughout all the hill-country of Judea.

66 And all they that had heard them laid them up in their hearts, faying, What manner of child (hall this be? And the hand of the Lord was with him.

67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophefied, faying,
