II And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and fpake unto them of the kingdom of God, and heal ed them that had need of healing. 12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve and faid unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals; for we are here in a defert place.

13 But he faid unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they faid, We have no more but five loaves and two fifhes: except we fhould go and buy meat for all this people.

14 (For they were about five thousand men.) And he faid to his difciples, Make them fit down by fifties in a company.

15 And they did fo, and made them all fit down.

16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes; and, looking up to heaven, he bleffed them, and brake, and gave to the difciples to fet before the multitude.

17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets..

18 Andit came to pafs, as he was alone praying, his difciples were with him: and he asked them, faying, Whom fay thepeople that I am?

19 They anfwering, faid, John the Baptift: but fome fay, Elias; and others fay, That one of the old prophets is rifen again.

20 He faid unto them, But whom fay ye that I am? Peter anfwering, faid, The Chrift of God.

21 And he ftraitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing,

23 And he faid to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himfelf, and take up his crofs daily, and follow me.

24 For whofoever will fave his life fhall lofe it; but whofoever will lofe his life for my fake, the same fhall fave it.

25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lofe himself, or be cast away?

26 For whofoeve fhall be afha

27 But I tell you ofa truth, There be fome ftanding here which shall not tafte of death till they fee the kingdom of God.

28 And it camte to pafs, about eight days after thefe fayings, he took Peter, and John, and Janes, and went up into a mountain to pray.

29 And as he prayed, the fathion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and gliftering.

30 And, behold,there talked with him two men, which were Mofes and Elias;

31 Who appeared in glory, and fpake of his deceafe, which he fhould accomplish at Jerufalem.

32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with fleep: and when they were awake they faw his glory, and the two men that ftood with him.

33 And it came to pafs, as they departed from him, Peter faid unto Jefus, Matter, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one

35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, faying, This is my beloved Son; hear him.

36 And when the voice was paft Jefus was found alone. And they kept it clofe, and told no man in thofe daysany of thofe things which they had feen.

37 And it came to rafs, that, on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met hin.

38 And,behold,amanof.he company cried out, faying, Mafter, I befeech thee, look upon my fon; for he is mine only child;

39 And, le, a fpirit taketh him, and he fuddenly chieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again; and, bruifing him, hardly departeth from him.

40 And I befought thy difciples to caft him out; and they could not. 41 And Jeius anfwering, faid, O faithlefs and perverfe generation! how long shall I be with you, and fuffe you? Bring thy for hither.

42 And as he was yet a coming the devil threw him down and tare bim. And fetis rebuked the onclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

43 ¶ And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But, while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he faid unto his difciples,

44 Let theie fayings fink down into your ears: for the Son of man fhall be delivered into the hands of

men.

45 But they understood not this faying, and it was hid from them,

47 And Jefus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and fet him by him.

48 And faid unto them, Whofoever shall receive this child in my name, receiveth me; and whofoever fall receive me, receiveth him that fent mes for he that is leaft among you all, the fame fhal be great.

49 And John answered, and faid, Mafter, we faw one cafting out devils in thy name, and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us.

so and Jefus faid unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

51 And it came to país, when the time was come that he should be received up, he ftedfaftly fet his face to go to Jerufalem,

52 And fent meffengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samari tans to make ready for him.

53 And they did not receive him, becaufe his face was as though he would go to Jerufalem.

54 And when his difciples, James and John, faw this, they faid, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and confume them, even as Elias did?

5 But he turned, and rebuked them, and faid, Ye know not what manner of ipirit ye are of.

56 For the Son of man is not come to deltroy men's lives, but to tave them. And they went to another village.

57 And it came to pafs, that, as they went in the way, a certain man faid unto him, Lord, Twill fol low thee whitherfoever thou goeft.

10 But into whatfoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the ftreets of the fame, and say,

But he faid, Lord, fuffer me firft to go and bury my father. 60 Jefus faid unto him, Let the dead bury their dead; but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another alfo faid, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me firft bid them farewell which are at home at my houfe.

62 And Jefus faid unto him, No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

CHAP. X. The feventy difciples fent out. FTER thefe things the Lord appointed other feventy alfo, and fent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself would come.

2 Therefore fald he unto them, The harveft truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harveft, that he would fend forth labourers into his harveft.

3 Goyour ways: behold, I fend you forth as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry neither purfe, nor fcrip, nor fhog and falute no man by the way.

5 And into whatfoever houfe ye enter, firft fay, Peace be to this houfe.

6And ifthe fon of peace be there, your peace fhall reft upon it: if not, it thall turn to you again.

7 And in the fame houfe remain, eating and drinking fuch things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from houfe to houfe.

II Even the very duft of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithftanding, be ye fure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh. unto you.

12 But I fay unto you, That it fhall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.

13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethfaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which have been done in you, they had a great while agó repented, fitting in fackcloth and athes.

14 But it fhall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, fhall be thrust down to hell.

16 He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that defpifeth you, defpifeth me; and he that defpifeth me, defpifeth him that fent me.

17 And the feventy returned again with joy, faying, Lord, even the devils are fubject unto us through thy name.

18 And he faid unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

S. LUKE. Martha reprehended.

21 In that hour Jefus rejoiced in fpirit, and faid, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth that thou haft hid thefe things from the wife and prudent, and haft revealed thein unto babes: even fo, Father; for fo it feemed good in thy fight.

22 All things are delivered to me of my Father; and no man know eth who the Sonis, but the Father; and who she Father is, but the Son, and be to whom the Son will reveal him.

23 And he turned him unto bis difciples, and faid privately, Bleffed are the eyes which fee the things that ye fee:

24 For I tell you, That many prophets and kings have defired to fee thofe things which ye fee, and have not feen them; and to hear thofe things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

25 And, behold a certain lawyer food up, and tempted him, faying, Matter, what ihali I do to inherit eternal life?

26 He laid unto him, What is written in the law? how readeft thou?

27 And he anfwering, faid, Thou fhalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy foul, and with all thy ftrength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyfelf.

29 And he faid unto him, Thou ha aufwered right: this do, and thou fhalt live.

29 But he, willing to just fy himfelf, aid unto Jefus, And who is my neighbour?

30 And Jefus anfwering, faid, A certain man went down from Jerufalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which tripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31 And by chance there came down a certain prief that way; and, when he faw him, he paffed by on the other fide.

32 And likewife a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and paffed by on 'the other fide.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and, when he saw him, he had compaffion on him,

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and fet him on his own beaf, and brought him to an inn, ànd took care of him.

35 And on the morrow, when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the hoft, and faid unto him, Take care of him: and whatfocver thou fpendett more, when I come again I will repay

thee.

36 Which now of these three, thinkeft thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37 And he faid, He that fhewed mercy on him. Then faid Jefus unto him, Go, and do thou likewife.

38¶ Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her houfe.

39 And fhe had a fifter called Mary, which also fat at Jefus' feet, and heard his word.

40 But Martha was cumbered about much ferving, and came to him, and faid, Lord, doft thou not care that my lifter hath left me to ferve alone? bid her, therefore, that the help me.

41 And Jefus anfwered, and faid unt her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

2 And he faid unto them, When ye pray, fay, Our Father which art in heaven; Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, fo in earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4. And forgive us our fins: for we alfo forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us

from evil.

5 And he faid unto them, Which of you fhall have a friend, and fall go unto him at midnight, and fay unto him, friend, lend me three loaves;

6 For afriend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to fet before him?

7 And he from within fhall anfwer and fay, Trouble me not: the door is now fhut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rife and give thee.

8 I fay unto you, Though he will not rife and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rife and give him as many as he needeth.

9 And I lay unto you, Aik, and it fhall be given you; feek, and ye fhall find; knock, and it fhall be opened unto you.

14 And he was cafting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pafs, when the devil was gone out the dumb fpake; and the people wondered.

15 But fome of them faid, He cafteth out devils through Beelzebub, the chief of the devils.

16 And others, tempting bim, fought of him a fign from heaven. 17 Buthe, knowing theirthoughts, faid unto them, Every kingdom divided against itfelf is brought to defolation; and a houfe divided againft a houfe falleth.

18 If Satan alio be divided against himself, how fhall his kingdom ftand? becaule ye fay that I caft out devils through Beelzebub.

19 And if I by Eeelzebub caft out devils, by whom do your fons caft them out? therefore fhall they be your judges.

20 But if I with the finger of God caft out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a freng man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

22 But when a ftronger than he fhall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his fpoils.

23 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me fcattereth.
