HAD not the only Son of God

Been cloth'd in human flesh and blood,
And fuffer'd for us willingly,

We had been loft eternally.

Praise to the Father and the Son,
And Holy Spirit, three in one,

That we're from condemnation freed,
Since Chrift our ranfom fully paid.

(After a fhort difcourfe follows this prayer :)
L. Lord God, our Father, which art in Heaven!
A. Hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy
will be done on earth, as it is in heaven; give us
this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tref-
paffes, as we forgive them that trefpafs against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil;

Ch. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever;

A. Amen.

L. Lord God Son, thou Savior of the world!

A. Own us to be thine!

L. Lord God, Holy Ghoft!

A. Abide with us for ever!

To needy pray'rs thine ear afford,

And on us all have mercy.

With thy holy facraments,

A. Blefs us, gracious Lord and God!

Anfwer: I do.

L. Doft thou believe, that he is thy Lord, who redeemed thee, a loft and undone human creature, purchased and gained thee from all fin, from death and from the power of the Devil, not with gold or filver, but with his holy precious blood, and with his innocent fuffering and dying?

Anfwer: I verily believe it.

L. Doft thou defire to be cleanfed from fin in the blood of Jefus Chrift, and to be buried into his death by holy baptifm?

Answer: That is
That is my fincere defire.

L. Doft thou defire to be embodied into the congregation of Chrift, by holy baptifm, which is the laver of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost, and in his kingdom to live under him and ferve him in eternal righteoufnefs, innocence, and happiness? Anfwer: That is my fincere defire.

(During the impofition of hands, the Minifter continues :) Thus art thou now washed, juftified and fanctified by the blood of Chrift: therefore live, yet not thou,

but Chrift live in thee! And the life, which thou liveft in the flesh, live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved thee, and gave himself for thee.

(Then, the Congregation kneeling, and the perfon baptized falling proftrate, the following verfes may be fung:)

[merged small][ocr errors]

Jefus our Lord thee fanctify,
Make thee one Spirit with him to be,
His body torn with many a wound
Preferve thy foul and body found!

The blood-fweat trickling down his face
Thy condemnation doth erafe,

His crofs and fuff'rings fhall remain,
Thy everlasting ftrength and gain.

The Father, Son, and Holy Ghoft,
Will thee protect, we humbly trust.

During the last or any other fuitable verfe, the Congregation rifes, and the perfon baptized receives the kifs of peace, a Brother from the Minifter and his affiftants, and a Sifter from the Sifters who affift; then the Minifter pronounces the bleffing :)

The Lord bless thee and keep thee!

The Lord make his face to fhine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee!

The Lord lift up

his countenance upon thee, and

give thee peace.

A. In the name of Jefus. Amen.
