(After these or other verfes fuited to this tranfaction have been fung, and a short difcourfe delivered concerning the aim of baptifm, and the grace thereby imparted to those who receive it, the Minifter puts the following questions to the candidate :)

L. Doft thou believe, that thou art a finful creature, and doft, on account of thy fins, deserve the wrath of God, and eternal punishment?

Answer: I do believe it.

L. Doft thou believe, that Jefus Christ became a man for us, and by his innocent life, fufferings, blood-fhedding, and death, reconciled us poor finful creatures to God?

Anfwer: I verily believe it.

L. Doft thou believe, that he hath purchased for thee by his blood and death, remission of fins, life and happinefs?

Answer: I verily believe it.

L. Wilt

L. Wilt thou in this faith be baptized into the death of Jefus, and be washed from thy fins in his blood? Anfwer: That is my fincere defire.

L. Doft thou also desire to be delivered from the power of fin and of Satan, and to be received into the fellowship of Jefus Chrift, and of those who be lieve in him?

Answer: That is my fincere defire, and I renounce the Devil and all his works and ways.

(During this verse the candidate for baptifm kneels down, and the Minifter prays in his behalf, that he may be cleanfed from all his fins in the blood of Chrift; delivered from guilt and punishment, and from the dominion of fin and Satan; buried by baptifm into the death of Jefus, and raised together with him unto newness of life, and thus, together with all believers, received into and made a partaker of the fellowship of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghoft.)

L. Thus art thou now buried with Chrift, through baptifm, into his death. Now, therefore, from henceforth live, yet not thou, but Chrift live in thee. And the life which thou liveft in the flesh, live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved thee and gave himself for thee.

He who hath look'd on thee in grace,
Rich bleffings hath in ftore.

*During these words the Congregation kneels down, and the perfon baptized falls proftrate, during which fome ore verfes may be fung, for inftance:

Make thee one spirit with him to be;
His body torn with many a wound,
Preferve thy foul and body found.

OR:

The Savior's blood and righteousness,
Thy fplendor are, thy glorious drefs;
Thus well array'd, thou need'st not fear,
When in God's prefence thou'lt appear.

OR:

His death and paffion ever,
'Till foul and body fever,

Shall in thy heart engrav'd remain.

All praise and honor doth pertain
Unto the Lamb, for he was flain,
He hath redeem'd us with his blood*,
And made us Kings and Priests to God.

*At these words the Congregation rifes, and the perfon baptized receives the kifs of peace in the fame manner as mentioned above, page 114, after which the Minifter pronounces the bleffing of the Lord:

The Lord blefs thee and keep thee, &c. A. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
