Παραγγέλλομεν δὲ ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοὶ, ἐν ὀνόματι τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, στέλλεσθαι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ παντὸς ἀδελφοῦ ἀτάκτως περιπατοῦντος, καὶ μὴ κατὰ τὴν παράδοσιν ἣν παρέλαβε παρ' ἡμῶν.

a Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, b that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

VER. 11.

̓Ακούομεν γάς τινας περιπατοῦντας ἐν ὑμῖν ἀτάκτως, μηδὲν ἐργαζομένους, ἀλλὰ περιεργαζομένους.

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, a working not at all, but are busy bodies.

a And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also, and busy bodies, speaking things which they ought not, 1 Tim. v. 13.

VER. 12.

Τοῖς δὲ τοιούτοις παραγγέλλομεν, καὶ παρακαλοῦμεν διὰ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ἵνα μετὰ ἡσυχίας ἐργαζόμενοι, τὸν ἑαυτῶν ἄρτον ἐσθίωσιν.

Now them that are such, we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

Εἰ δέ τις οὐχ ὑπακούει τῷ λόγῳ ἡμῶν διὰ τῆς ἐπιστολῆς, τοῦτον συμειοῦσθε· καὶ μὴ συναναμίγνυσθε αὐτῷ, ἵνα ἐντραπή,

As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, a that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

For there are many unruly and vain talk ers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake, Tit. i. 9-11.

ἀπεράντας, αἵτινες ζητήσεις παρέχουσι Μηδὲ προσέχειν μύθοις, καὶ γενεαλογίαις μᾶλλον ἡ οἰκονομίαν Θεοῦ τὴν ἐν πίστει.

Καθὼς παρεκάλεσά σε προσμεῖναι ἐν Εφέσω, πορευόμενος εἰς Μακεδονίαν, ἵνα παραγγείλης τισὶ μὴ ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖν· VOL. III.

a But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness, 1 Tim. iv. 7. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions_of science falsely so called, vi. 20. But shun profane and vain babblings; for they will increase unto more ungodliness, 2 Tim. ii. 16. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables, iv. 4. Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men that turn from the truth, Tit. i. 14.

b But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and striving about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain, Tit. iii. 9.

but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself, 1 Tim. vi. 4, 5. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes, 2 Tim. ii. 23.

VER. 5.

Τὸ δὲ τέλος τῆς παραγγελίας ἐστὶν ἀγάπη ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας, καὶ συνειδήσεως ἀγαθῆς, καὶ πίστεως ἀνυποκρίτου
