Ju bila te, Ju-bi-la-te, Ju-bi- la - te, f 1 SOFT as fades the sunset splendor, And the light of day grows dim, We to thee our praises render; Sing we thus our vesper hymn: Father, gracious, loving, tender, 2 Day by day comes rich in blessing; But, unworthiness confessing, 1 HARK! the vesper hymn is stealing Farther now, now farther stealing, 2 Now like moonlight waves retreating Hush! again like waves retreating 1 THE stream is calmest when it nears the tide, [tide, 2 And flowers are sweetest at the evenAnd birds most musical at close of day, And saints divinest when they pass away. 2 Morning is lovely, but a holier charm Lies folded close in Evening's robe of 3 balm; And weary man must ever love her best, For morning calls to toil, but night to rest. 3 She comes from Heaven, and on her 4 wings doth bear A holy fragrance, like the breath of prayer; Footsteps of angels follow in her trace, To shut the weary eyes of day in peace. 4 0, when our sun is setting, may we glide Like summer's evening down the golden tide; 5 Of those high scenes whose glories all are wrought sun, [tence.
