Q. What Method did GoD take to punifh Mankind?

A. He fent a Deluge upon them.

Q. What do you mean by a Deluge? A. Amighty Torrent of Waters, which covered the Face of the whole Earth.

A. They were all drowned, except Noah and his Family.

Q. What became of the Beafts of the Field, and the Birds of the Air?

A. They were all drowned likewise, except two of each Species.

Q. What became of Noah?

A. By God's Special Command be built him an Ark, wherein be fecured his own Life, and thofe of his Family, with two of all other Species both of Birds and Beafts. Q. What Sort of a Veffel was Noah's Ark?

A. A fquare Veffel, made with a Lid, or Cover, in the Form or Fashion of a Cheft. Q. Are all Mankind Brethren, and Defcendants from one Stock?

A. Yes, because we are all the Pofterity of Adam and Noah.

Q. What do you call the Law of Nature? A. The Light of Reafon, and the Dictates of our own Confcience.

Q. How are we thereby inftructed to perform our Duty towards GoD?

A. Not to do that to any other Perfon, which we should efteem an Injury done to ourfelves.

A. To be always on our Guard, and to give a Check to the Violence of our inordinate Paffions, and Defires.

Of ABRAHAM, and the Reft of the PATRIARCHS.

HERE were fome holy Perfons, particularly the Defcendants of Shem, who profeffed the true Religion, and acted in all Refpects with a ftrict Conformity to the Law of Nature. Abraham was one of the most righteous, and God Almighty condefcended to enter into a fpecial Covenant with him. He commanded him to depart from his own Country, and his own Kindred, and promifed to make him the Father of a People, as numberlefs as the Sands on the Sea Shore, and to put them in Poffeffion of the Land of Canaan; and, moreover, in

his Seed to blefs all the Nations of the Earth; which was a manifeft Indication, that the Saviour of the World fhould, in Fulness of Time, become one of his Defcendants. Abraham believed in, and relied on the Promises of GoD, who commanded him to be circumcifed, as a Seal, or Token of his Covenant with him: And GOD faid unto him, Sarah thy Wife shall bear thee a Son, and thou shalt call his Name Ifaac. The Promife was accordingly fulfilled, and the Lad grew in Favour with GoD and Men, Gon, however, for the Tryal of Abraham's Faith, tempted him, and faid unto him, Take now thy Son, thy only Son Ifaac, whom thou loveft, and get thee into the Land of Moriah, and offer him upon one of the Mountains there for a Burnt-Offering: but upon his ftretching forth his Arm, and taking his Knife, in order to flay his Son, the Angel of the LORD called unto him out of Hea ven, and faid, Lay not thy Hand upon the Lad, neither do thou any thing unto him; for now I know that thou fearest GOD, Jeeing thou hast not with-held thy Son, thine only Son from me. Ifaac was the Father of Facob, otherwife called Ifrael, who had Twelve Children, and amongst others, Levi, Judah, Jofeph, and Benjamin. Thefe were the twelve Patriarchs, the Heads, or Rulers of the twelve Tribes of the Children of Ifrael.
