TO THE BOYS AND GIRLS

Dear Boys and Girls:

Do you like fairy stories?

You do not need to tell us.

We know you like them.

So we are going to give you some to read.

You may have heard some

of these stories before,

but not many of them.

Some have come from far

across the sea, and some have come from our own country.

Mothers have told them.

to their children again and again, and children have never been tired of them.

We think you will like them, too.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The poems of Mr. Frank Dempster Sherman and Miss Abbie Farwell Brown are used by special arrangement with the Houghton Mifflin Company, publishers.

Acknowledgments are also due to the following publishers and authors for permission to use copyrighted material: to Charles Scribner's Sons for poems from Robert Louis Stevenson's "A Child's Garden of Verses" and Mrs. Mary Mapes Dodge's "Rhymes and Jingles"; to the Macmillan Company for poems from Christina Rossetti's "Sing Song"; to Little, Brown, and Company for poems from Mrs. Laura E.
