And it the Perfons that are to be married, dwell in divers Parishes, the Banns must be afked in both Parishes,
and the Curate of the one Parish shall not folemnize Matrimony betwixt them, without a certificate of the Perifh Banns being thrice asked from the Curate of the other Parish.
At the day appointed for the Solemnization of Matrimony, the perfons to be married fhall come into the body of the church with their Friends and Neighbours : and there flanding together, the Man on the right band, and the Woman on the left, tle Prieft fhall fay,
Degation, to join together this Man and thris Woman in holy Matrimony, which is at honourable eftate,
EARLY beloved, we are gathered here together in the fight of God, and in the face of this con. inftituted of God in the time of man's innocency, fignitying unto us the myftical union that is betwixt Chrift and his Church which holy estate Chrift adorned and beautified with His prefence, and first miracle that he wrought in Cana of Galilee, and is commended of St. Paul to be honourable among all men; and therefore is not by any to be enterprised, nor taken in hand unadvifedly, lightly or wantonly, to fatisfy men's carnal lufts and appetites, like brute beafts that have no undertanding but reverently, difcreetly, advifedly, foberly, and in the fear of God; duly confidering the caufes for which Matrimony was ordained.
First, it was ordained for the procreation of children, to be brought up in the tear and nurture of the Lord, and to the praife of his holy Name.
Secondly, it was ordained for a remedy against fin, and to avoid fornication, that fuch perfons as have not the gift of continency, might marry, and keep themfelves undefiled members of Chrift's body.
Thirdly, it was ordained for the mutual fociety, help and comfort that the one ought to have of the other, both in profperity and adverfity.
Into which holy eftate these two perfons prefent come now to be joined. Therefore if any man can fhew any juft caufe why they may not lawfully be joined together, let him now fpeak, or else here after for ever hold his peace.
And alfo peaking to the perfons that fall be married, he fall foy,
Require and charge you both (as ye will answer at the dreadful day of judgment, when the fecrets of alty
I hear thall be dife ofed) that if either of you know any impediment, why ye may not be lawfully joined
together in Matrimony, ye do now confefs it. For be ye well affured, that fo many as are coupled together otherwife, chap Gods Word doth allow,, are not joined together by God, neither is their Matrimony lawful. If no impediment be alledged, then hall the Curate fay unto the Man."
ILT thou have this woman to thy wedded wite, to live together after God's ordinance, in the holy eftate of Matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honour and keep her in sickness and in health, and forfaking all other, keep thee only unto her, fo long as ye both fhall live? The Man fhall anfwer, I will.
Then fhall the Priest fay unto the Woman,
ILT thou have this man to thy wedded hufband, to live together after God's ordinance, in the holy effate of Matrimony? Wilt thou obey him, ferve him, love, Honour, and keep him in fickness and in health, and forfaking all other, keep thee only unto him, fo long as ye both shall live i
The Woman hall answer, I will.

The Minifter receiving the woman at her Fathers, or Friends hands, fhali cause the man with his right hand to take the Weman by her right hand and to fay after him as followeth :

Then hall they again loofe their hands, and the man fhall give unto the Woman a Ring, laying the fame upon the book, with the accufiomed duty to the Priest and Clerk. And the Priest taking the Ring, fhall deliver it unto the
and utterly prevent that affectionate and mutual Affiftance which contributes fo much to the Support as well as Propagation of our Species; and without which the bufinets of Education would be liable to be neglected; befides, where the Ma riage Union is founded upon Virtue, fupported by Prudence and good nature; it bids fair for producing the
greatest happiness this world can afford: A happiness which mutual Intereft will ftrengthen, reciprocal kindness will improve, a finiting Offspring confirm, and death fcarcely diffolve. See Gen, 2, 18, 22, 23. John 2.1.1 Cor. 7, 2. Heb. 13. 4.
Man, to put it upon the fourth finger of the Woman's left hand. And the man holding the Ring there, and taught by the. Prieft, fhall fay,
ITH this Ring I thee wed, with my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Then the Man leaving the Ring upon the fourth finger of th Womans lef hand, they shall both kneel down, and the Minister ball fay, Let us pray.
Eternal God, creator and preferver of all mankind, giver of all fpiritual grace, the author of everlasting lite; Send thy blefling upon these thy fervants, this man and this woman, whom we blefs in thy name; that as Ifaac and Rebecca lived faithfully together, fo thefe perfons may furely perform and keep the vow and covenant betwixt them made, (whereof this Ring given and received is a token and pledge;) and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together, and live according to thy laws, through Jefus Chrift our

And the Minifter fhall add this blefing.
OD the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghoft, blets, preferve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favour lock upon you, and fo fill you with all fpiritual benediction and grace, that ye may fo live together in this life, that in the world to come ye may have life everlasting. Amen.
Then the Minifter, or Clerks going to the Lord's Table, fhall fay or fing this Pfalm following.
LESSED are all they that fear the Lord; and walk in his ways.
For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: O well is thee, and happy fhalt thou be.
Thy wife fhall be as the fruitful vine: upon the walls of thine house.
Thy children like the olive-branches: round about thy table.
Lo, thus fhall the man be bleffed; that feareth the Lord.

Merciful Lord and heavenly Father, by whofe gracious gift mankind is increased; We beseech thee affit with thy blefling these two perfons, that they may both he fruitful in procreation of children, and alfo live together, fo long in godly love and honefty, that they may fee their children chriftianly and virtu oufly brought up, to thy praife and honour, through Jefus Chrift our Lord. God, who by thy mighty power haft made all things of nothing, who alfo (after other things fet in order) didt appoint that out of man (created after thine own image and fimilitude) woman should take her be ginning and knitting them together, didit teach that it fhould never be lawful to put afunder those whom thou by Matrimony hadit made one: O God, who haft confecrated the ftate of Matrimony to fuch att excellant myftery, that in it is fignified and reprefented the fpiritu 1 marriage and unity betwixt Chrit and his Church; Look mercifully upon thefe thy fervants, that both this man may love his wife, according to thy word, (as Chrift did love his fpoufe the Church, who gave himfeif for it, loving and cherishing it even as his own fleth) and alfo that this woman may be loving and amiable, faithful and obedient to her husband, and in all quietnefs, fobriety and peace, be a follower of holy and godly matrons. O Lord, bless them bọt, and grant them to inherit thy everlasting kingdom, through Jefus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, who at the beginning did create our fir parents, Adam and Eve, and did fanctify and
join them together in marriage; Pour upon you the riches of his grace, fanctify and bless you, that ye may please him both in body and foul, and live together in holy love unto your lives end. Amen. LL ye that A Scripture as touching the duty of hulbands Saint Paul in his Epifle to the Ephefians, the fifth Chapter, deth give this commandment to all married men, Hufbands love your wives, even as Chrift alfo loved the Church, and gave himself for it, that he might fanctify and cleanfe it with the washing of water, by the word; that he might prefent it to himself a glorious Church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any fuch thing; but that it fhould be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife, loveth himself. For no maa ever yet hated his own flesh, but nour theth and cherisheth it, even as the Loid the Church for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two fhall be one flesh. This is a great mystery; but I fpeak concerning Christ and the Church. Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular fo love his wife, even as himself. Ephef. v. 25. Likewife the fame St Paul, writing to the Coloffians, fpeaking thus to all men that are married, Hufbands, love your Wi es, and be not bitter against them. COL. iii, 19.
Hear alfo what St. Peter the Apostle of Chrift, who was himself a married man, faith unto them that are married; Ye husbands dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered. 1 S. PET. iii. 7.
Hitherto ye have heard the duty of the hufband toward the wife. Now likewife, ye wives hear and learn your duties toward your husbands, even as it is plainly fet forth in holy Scripture..
St. Paul in the aforenamed Epistle to the Ephefians teacheth you thus; Wives, fubmit yourfe'ves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Chrift is the head of the Church and he is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as the Church is fubject unto Chrift, fo ler the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. And again he faith, Let the wife fee that the reverence her husband. EPHES. V. 22.
And in his Epiftle to the Coloans, Saint Paul giveth you this fhort leffon, Wives fubmit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Col. iii. 18,
Saint Peter alfo doth inftruft you very well, thus faying, Ye wives, be in fubjection to your own husbands; that if any obey not the word, they also may without the word, be won by the converfation of the wives; while they behold your chafte converfation coupled with fear. Whofe adorning let it not be, that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptable even the ornament of a mieek and quiet fpirit, which is in the fight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the ho y women also, who trusted in God,
adorned themselves, being in fubjection unto their own hufbands; even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord 3 whofe daughters ye are as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. 1S. that the fenfe of his weakness may add ftrength to his faith, and ferioufnefs to his repentance. That it it fhould be thy good pleasure to reflore him to his former health, he may lead the refidue of his life in thy fear, and to thy glory or elfe give him grace fo to take thy vifitation, that after this painful life ended, he may dwell with thee in life everlafling, through Jefus Christ our Lord. If the Perfon vifited be very fick, then the Curate may end bis Exhortation in this place, or elle proceed, proced.) TAKE therefore in good part the chattifement of the Lord: For (as St. Paul faith in the twelfth Chapter to the Hebrews) whem the Lord loveth he chaileneth, and fcourgeth every son whom he receivethe If ye endure chaftening, God dealeth with you as with fons; for what fon is he whom the fathe chafteneth not? But if ye be without chaft fement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye baftards, and not ions. Further more, we have had fathers of our flesh, which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: fhall we not much rather be in fubjection unto the Father of Spirits, and live? For they ver:ly for a few days chattened us after their own pleasure ; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Thefe words, good brt. ther, are written in holy Scripture for our comfort and inftruction, that we should patiently, and with thankf giving, bear our heavenly Fathers correction, whenfoever by any manner of advertity it thalt pleate his gra cious goodness to vifit us. And there fhould be no greater comfort to Chriftian pertons, than to be made like unto Chrift, by fuffering patiently adverfities, troubles, and fickneffes. Fur he hamieli went not up to joy, but first be fuffered pain; he entered nct his glory before he was crucified. So truly our way to eternal joy is to fuffer here with Chrift; and our door to enter into eternal life is gladly to die with Chrift: that we may rife again from death, and dwell with him in everlasting life. Now therefore taking your ficknets, which is thus profitable for you, patiently, I exhort you in the Name of God to remember the profeffion which you made unto God in your Baptifm. And forafmuch as after this life there is an account to be given unto the righteous Judge, by whom all muft be judged without refpect of perfons; I require you to examine yourself and your estate, both toward God and man; to that accufing and condemning yourfeit for your own faults, you may find mercy at our heavenly Fathers hand for Chrill's fake, and not be accufed and condemned in that tearful judgment. Therefore I fhall rehearfe to you the Articles of our Faith, that you may know whether you do believe as a Chriftian man fhould, or no. And doft thou believe in the Holy Ghoft; the holy Catholick Church; the Communion of faints; the Remiflion of fins; the Refurrection of the neth; and everlasting life after death?

These words before rehearsed, may be jaid before the Minifter begin his Prayer, as he shall fee causes The Minister fhould not omit earnestly to move fuch fick perfons as are of ability to be liberal to the poor. Ega and Re Here fhall the fick perfon be movea to make a special Confession of his fins, if he feel his Confcience troubled with any weighty matter.
