To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth,

And delivereth them out of all their troubles.

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart;

And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous:

But the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

HE keepeth all his bones:
Not one of them is broken.

Evil shall slay the wicked:

And they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants :

And none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

PSALM XLVI.

GOD is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

Therefore will not we fear,

Though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried into the midst of

the sea;

Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,

Though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of GOD,

The holy place of the tabernacles of the MOST HIGH.

GOD is in the midst of her;

She shall not be moved :

GOD shall help her, and that right early.

The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved :

HE uttered his voice, the earth melted.

The LORD of HOSTS is with us;

The GOD of Jacob is our refuge.

Come, behold the works of the LORD,

What desolations HE hath made in the earth.

HE maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth;
HE breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder;
HE burneth the chariot in the fire.

Be still, and know that I am GOD:
I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth.
The LORD of HOSTS is with us;
The GOD of Jacob is our refuge.

PSALM XLVII.

O CLAP your hands, all ye people;
Shout unto GOD with the voice of triumph.
For the LORD most high is terrible :
HE is a great KING over all the earth.
He shall subdue the people under us,
And the nations under our feet.
HE shall choose our inheritance for us,
The excellency of Jacob whom He loved.

GOD is gone up with a shout,

The LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to GOD, sing praises :
Sing praises unto our KING, sing praises.
For GOD is the KING of all the earth:
Sing ye praises with understanding.

GOD reigneth over the heathen :

GOD sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

The princes of the people are gathered together,
Even the people of the GOD of Abraham :
For the shields of the earth belong unto GOD:
HE is greatly exalted.

PSALM XLIX.

HEAR this, all ye people;

Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:

Both low and high,

Rich and poor, together.

My mouth shall speak of wisdom;

And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. I will incline mine ear to a parable:

I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil,

When the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
They that trust in their wealth,

And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
None of them can by any means redeem his brother,
Nor give to God a ransom for him :

That he should still live for ever,

And not see corruption.

For he seeth that wise men die,

Likewise the fool and the brutish person perish,

And leave their wealth to others.

Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue

for ever,

And their dwelling-places to all generations;

They call their lands after their own names.
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not:
He is like the beasts that perish.

But GOD will redeem my soul from the power of the

grave:

For HE shall receive me.

Be not thou afraid when one is made rich,
When the glory of his house is increased;
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away:

His glory shall not descend after him.

Though while he lived he blessed his soul:

And men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

He shall go to the generation of his fathers;

They shall never see light.

Man that is in honour, and understandeth not,

Is like the beasts that perish.

PSALM LI.

HAVE mercy upon me, O GOD, According to thy loving-kindness :

According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies

Blot out my transgressions.

Wash me throughly from mine iniquity,

And cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my transgressions:

And my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,

And done this evil in thy sight:

That THOU mightest be justified when THOU speakest,

And be clear when THOU judgest.

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;

And in sin did my mother conceive me.

Behold, THOU desirest truth in the inward parts:

And in the hidden part THOU shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean :

Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Make me to hear joy and gladness;

That the bones which THOU hast broken may rejoice.

Hide thy face from my sins,

And blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God ;
And renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence;
And take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
And uphold me with thy free spirit.

Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;
And sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from blood-guiltiness,

O GOD, thou GOD of my salvation :

And my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

O LORD, Open THOU my lips;

And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

For THOU desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it :

THOU delightest not in burnt-offering.

The sacrifices of GOD are a broken spirit :

A broken and a contrite heart, O GOD, THOU wilt not despise.

Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:

Build THOU the walls of Jerusalem.

Then shalt THOυ be pleased with the sacrifices of right

eousness,

With burnt-offering and whole burnt-offering:

Then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
