That we may know him that is true,
And we are in him that is true,
Even in his Son Jesus Christ.

This is the true God, and eternal life.
1 John v. 20, Acts xx. 28.

201.

God, the Comforter.

(C. M.)

COME, Holy Ghost, eternal God!
Proceeding from above,

Both from the Father and the Son,
The God of peace and love!

Visit our minds; into our hearts,
Thy heavenly grace inspire,
That we may truth and godliness
Pursue with full desire.

Thou art the very Comforter
In grief and all distress;
Thou art the gift of God Most High,
None can thy grace express.

Then let us pray our only Lord
Would please his Spirit send,
On all that shall profess his name
From hence to the world's end.

202.

Acceptable, being Sanctified.

WE are bound to give thanks alway to God

for you,

Brethren, beloved of the Lord,

Because God hath from the beginning
Chosen you to salvation

Through sanctification of the Spirit,

And belief of the truth.--2 Thess. ii. 13.

203.

Praise ye the Lord.

PRAISE God the Father's grace,
Who takes us as his sons,
Who bids us run a heavenly race,

And helpeth him who runs.

Praise God the eternal Son,
Who once a child became,
That we might be the sons of God
Through his beloved name.

Praise God the Holy Ghost,
Who dwelleth in the heart,
To make us one with Jesus Christ,
And heavenly life impart.

(S.M.)

Praise God for ever One,
He saved us when we fell;
His goodness keeps and makes us live,
And He doth all things well.

204. One God in Three, and Three in One.

THERE are three that bear record in heaven, The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, And these three are one.

If we receive the witness of men, the wit

ness of God is greater.-1 John v. 7,9.

THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH.

ALMIGHTY GOD, our heavenly Father, who hast purchased to thyself an universal Church by the precious blood of thy dear Son, mercifully look upon the same.-(Ember-week's Collect.)

From all false doctrine, heresy, and schism, from hardness of heart and contempt of thy word and commandments, Good Lord, deliver us. (Litany.)

205. The Forty-eighth Psalm.

(C. M.)

GREAT is our God, the Lord of Hosts,

And highly to be praised;

In Zion, on his holy hill,

His glorious throne is raised.

For Zion is his dwelling-place,
And gladdens every land;
In beauty and in blessedness
God's holy house doth stand.

The King of kings there openly

His truth and grace hath shown;
There, as a refuge and a hope,
Is God our Saviour known.

Now for thy loving-kindness, Lord,
Within thy house we wait,

Praising thy name and righteousness,
Which blessed are and great.

206. Ministers are to feed the Church,

Mr son, be strong

In the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

And the things that thou hast heard of

me

Among many witnesses,

The same commit thou to faithful men,
Who shall be able to teach others also.

2 Tim. ii. 1.

207. The Church of the Living God. (C. M.)

I LOVE the Church, for her's I am,
And her I will uphold;

Church of my fathers!-she shall be
My comfort when I'm old.

Church of the poor !-to all a friend,

The glory of our land;

Her holy houses, free for all,

In every village stand.

Church of the Bible!-where God's Word

Is evermore proclaimed;

Her worship pure, and holy prayers

Upon that Word are framed.

Church of the Lord!-his flock, his fold,

And never-failing care;

His ministers, his sacraments,

His name and grace are there.

208. Let there be no Divisions among you. Now I beseech you, brethren,

Mark them which cause divisions and offences

Contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned,

And avoid them.

For they that are such serve not the Lord
Jesus.

Obey them that have the rule over you,
And submit yourselves;

For they watch for

your souls

As they that must give account.

209.

Rom. xvi. 17; Heb. xiii. 17.

(C. M.)

Beautiful for Situation.

OUR hearts are clustered round the Church, We were baptized there ;

Each sacred day, each heavenward thought, Is hallowed with her prayer.

Her spires and towers still point to heaven, Wherever we may be ;

How beautiful on every hand

A House for God to see!

Through all our land her voice is one,—
The same blest truths are read;

In her ten thousand parishes

The selfsame prayers are said.
