HEAVENLY Father! by thy grace
We were born of Christian race;
Early given unto Thee,
That thy children we might be.
We will praise the Saviour's name,
Who for our salvation came:
Once a child,—for us He died,
That we might be justified.
Now baptized unto his death,
We are his while we have breath ;
Dead to sin, to God alive,
'Gainst all evil let us strive.
For with Him we have our part,
That new life should fill our heart;
Yea, with Him we hope to rise
To his kingdom in the skies.

215. The Ark of Christ's Church. The long suffering of God waited in the

days of Noah, While the ark was a preparing, Wherein few, that is, eight souls were

saved by water. The lıke figure whereunto Even baptism doth also now save us, (Not the putting away of the filth of the

flesh,

But the answer of a good conscience to

wards God) By the resurrection of Jesus Christ : Who is gone into heaven.—1 Peter iii. 20.

216. Grafted into Christ's Church. (c.m.) O PRAISE the Lord, whose mercy great

Hath placed us in his Ark;
Hath open’d unto us his gate,

And mark'd us with his mark.
Glory to God, whose goodness free,

To others grants the same ;
Yea, hath commanded all should be

Baptized unto his name.
O Saviour! in our hearts awake

The mem'ry of our vow ;
That we should every sin forsake,

And henceforth walk as Thou.
For we are of this world no more,

But dead to sin with Thee;
And henceforth, until life is o'er,

Alive to God should be.

217. The Adoption of Sons.
Ye are all the children of God :

CONFIRMATION.

CHILDREN, at their baptism, promise repentance and faith by their sureties, which promise, when they come to age, themselves are bound to perform.

218. Your Promise at Baptism. (c.m.) PRAISE God, whose never failing grace

Will always guard his fold ; With mercy beaming from his face,

He looks on young and old.
Baptized to him, called by his name,

Our vows let us renew,
And yield our hearts to him who came,

A Saviour kind and true.

Thy grace, O Lord, to us impart,

And bless this hallowed rite; Thy Spirit pour on every heart,

And clothe our souls in white.

219. The God of Grace stablish you. They sent unto them Peter and John : Who, when they were come down, prayed

for them, That they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of

them :

Only they were baptized
In the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then laid they their hands on them,
And they received the Holy Ghost.

220. He shall Feed his Flock. (c.m.) Of Christ, O love to sing each day!

Of Christ, O love to learn !
And when he talketh by the way,

O may our bosom burn !
With tender heart and gentle hand,

And eyes that never sleep,
He leadeth to the heavenly land

His feeble lambs and sheep.
His word doth teach and warm the heart,

And sweetly tune the tongue ;

Bids cares and follies all depart,

And helps along the young.
He calls his flock with gracious voice,

And numbers all their names ;
He bids the young make him their choice,

Their vows, their hearts, he claims.

221. Dead to sin, alive to God. Know ye not that so many of us as were

baptized into Jesus Christ Were baptized into his death ? Therefore we are buried with him by bap

tism into death : That like as Christ was raised up from the

dead By the glory of the Father, Even so we also should walk in newness of life.

I am the Bread of Life. (7's.) LAMB of God, for sinners slain ! Sacrifice, our peace to gain ! Bread of life, which came from heaven! Thou, O Christ, for us wast given !
