May she her sceptre sway ;--
All loyal hearts obey ;-
Join heart and voice to cry—

God save the Queen!

287. Fear God, Honour the Queen. I EXHORT, therefore, that, first of all, Supplications, prayers, intercessions, and

giving of thanks, Be made for all men ; For kings and for all that are in authority; That we may lead a quiet and peaceable

life In all godliness and honesty. My son, fear thou the Lord and the King: And meddle not with them that are given

to change: For their calamity shall rise suddenly : And who knoweth the ruin of them both.

1 Tim. ii. 1 ; Prov. xxiv. 21.

288. Thou wilt prolong the King's Life:(c.m.) O LORD, our God, bow down thine ear,

And bless our native land;
For ever guard our gracious Queen

With thine almighty hand.
Grant that she long may live and reign

In health and perfect peace ;

May all her foes be overwhelmed,

Her faithful friends increase.
Grant her to guard thy holy Church,

Bid godly wisdom grow;
Defend the stranger and the poor,

And wickedness o’erthrow.
Grant that the ehildren through her realm

Their parents may obey ;
O visit her, for Jesus' sake,

With blessings day by day.

289. King of kings, and Lord of lords.
The Lord is King,
Be the people never so impatient;
He sitteth between the cherubims
Be the earth never so unquiet.
The Lord is great in Sion,
And high above all people.

Ps. xcix. 1, 2.

My Native Land. (7's.)
BLESSED be my native land,
Guard it, Lord, on every hand ;
All the earth beside has not
Such a happy, holy spot.
Land of Bibles and of light,
Land where youth are taught what's right,
Land of churches and of grace,
Land where Sundays bless each place.

Land where none can make afraid,
Where the laws must be obeyed ;
Land of freedom, homes, and peace,
Never may its blessings cease.
Lord, may we improve aright,
All its blessings, all its light,
Honour to our parents give,
So in it we long may live.

The Roaring Lion.
There's a lion always near,
Watching on your soul to fly,
But he hides himself for fear
You should see his cruel eye.

work and at your play,
He is ever by your side ;

your home he finds his way,
In God's very house he'll hide.
When your Saviour you forget,
When you trifle with God's law,
Then your foe is crouching set,
Ready with his dreadful paw.
O, your souls to Christ belong !
Pray that he your guard will be ;
If you turn from what is wrong,
He will make this lion flee.

292. Whence cometh Temptation?

LET no man say, when he is tempted,
I am tempted of God:

For God cannot be tempted with evil,
Neither tempteth He any man:
But every man is tempted,

When he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.-James i. 13; iv. 7.

293. Repent: for why will ye die ?(s. M.)

THE Saviour kindly saith
And whispers in His Word,
Arise, and put not off till death,
But haste ye to the Lord.

And if you know not how
The Lord would have you run,
Leave off your sins-amend e'en now,
The evils you have done.

And if you would repent,
Pluck sin up by the root,
And henceforth let your life be spent
To bring forth worthy fruit.

294. How and where shall we be safe?

BE sober, be vigilant;

Because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,

Walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist, stedfast in the faith.

An highway shall be there, and a way, And it shall be called The way of holiness; The unclean shall not pass over it: No lion shall be there,

Nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon; But the redeemed shall walk there.

1 Peter v. 8, 9; Isaiah xxxv. 8, 9.

295.Not joyous at present, but grievous.(7's.)

FOLLY in a child is bound,
Clinging to his heart around;
Born within and hedged about,
'Tis the rod must drive it out.

Much indulgence makes a child
Hasty, masterful, and wild,
But correction makes him wise,
Turns away from sin his eyes.

There are plagues within his heart,
From its folly t'will not part,
This each tender parent knows,
And in love reproof bestows.
