229. The Resurrection of the dry bones.
And he said unto me :
Son of Man | can these | boʻnes | live ?
And I answered, O Lord | God, thou |

knowest: Again he said unto me, Prophe | sy up on:

these | bones. And as I prophesied, there was a noise,

and be holda | shaking: And the bones came together | bone • to

hi's bone. And when I be held : Lo, the sinews and the flesh • came | up •

on them. And the skin covered them .a | bove: But there was no · breath | i'n | them. Then said he un • to me : Prophesy un to the I wi'nd / prophesy. So I prophesied as he commanded | me: And ihe breath came in to them and •

they lived, And stood up / on their | feet : An exceeding great | army:

Ezek. xxxvii. 3–10.

230. The Place is Holy Ground. (7’s.)

SERVANTS of the Lord most high,
Reverence the house of God,
And respect the dead that lie
Underneath the church-yard sod.

In his house, though none may see,
Always let your head be bare;
Quiet, thoughtful, serious be,
For God's honour dwelleth there.
'Tis a grief to see a child
O'er the dead regardless play,
Trampling those, in folly wild,
Who shall rise at judgment day.
There's an eye in every place,
Watches all that's done or said ;
There's a day when you must face
All that dust that now lies dead!

231. Bp. Heber's Missionary Hymn. (7.6.)

From Greenland's icy mountains,

From India's coral strand,
Where Afric's sunny fountains

Roll down their golden sand ;
From many an ancient river,

From many a palmy plain,
They call us to deliver

Their land from error's chain !
What though the spicy breezes

Blow soft o'er Java's isle,
Though every prospect pleases,

And only man is vile :

In vain with lavish kindness

The gifts of God are strewn,
The heathen, in bis blindness,

Bows down to wood and stone !
Can we, whose souls are lighted

With wisdom from on high,
Can we, to man benighted,

The lamp of life deny ?
Salvation ! Oh, salvation !

The joyful sound proclaim,
Till each remotest nation

Has learned Messiah's name !

232. The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

THE earth shall be full of the knowledge of

the Lord, As the waters cover the sea. And in that day there shall be a root of

Jesse, Which shall stand for an ensign of the

people; To it shall the Gentiles seek : And his rest shall be glorious.—Isa. xi. 9. The harvest truly is plenteous, but the la

bourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, That He will send forth labourers into his harvest.

This Gospelof the kingdom shall be preached

in all the world For a witness unto all nations ; And then shall the end come.

Matt. ix. 37 ; xxiv. 13.

233. The Little Missionary Maiden. (7.6.) You've oft read in the Bible,

In God's most holy Word,
Of the little maid and Naaman,

The leprous Syrian lord.
The captive Hebrew maiden

Well knew Elisha's name;
And to her master, Naaman,

She told the prophet's fame.
So he went unto Elisha,

And bathed in Jordan's wave;
For so bis haughty heart must learn

'Twas God alone could save.
And God-the God of Israel-cured

His leprosy that day ;
And Naaman believed in Him,

And thankful went his way.

234. The Dark Places of the Earth. (C. M.) BLESSED be God, who cast my lot

Within this Christian land ;
For half the nations know Him not,

Nor own his gracious hand.

How many a child, not near so old,

Is taught to bend its knee
To gods of wood, or stone, or gold,

Which cannot hear nor see !
And cruel priests still teach that these

In blood and pangs delight;
And babes are killed those gods to please,

Full in their mothers' sight.
They have not learned that God is love,

And holy, just, and true ;
But though in light I'm far above,

Am I more godly too ?

235. God hath not cast off Israel. (8. m.)

To bless thy chosen race,

In mercy, Lord, incline ;
And cause the brightness of thy face,

On Israel's tribes to shine.
Let differing nations praise

The God of Israel's name ;
Let all the world his glory raise,

His honour and his fame.
Lét them be glad, and sing,

For God o'er all doth reign;
And Israel's righteous Judge and King,

Shall bless us once again.
