Even when youth has passed away,
God's Words to Children.
CHILDREN, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Honour thy father and thy mother;
Which is the first commandment with promise;
That it may be well with thee,
And thou mayest live long on the earth.
And all the people shall say, Amen!
THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT.
O BLESSED Jesus, make me kind,
That bitterness and hastiness
Whene'er in angry rage I lift
Cain's deed towards his brother!
The beasts, whose spirits die, will fight
The quarrelsome and passionate,
Where none are found but those whose hearts
God fills,-and God is love!
251. How to treat our Enemies.
LOVE your enemies,
Bless them that curse you,
Do good to them that hate you,
And pray for them which despitefully use
And persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father Which is in heaven:
For he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good,
And sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if ye love them which love you,
Do not even the publicans the same?
Matt. v. 44.
252. Be ye kind one to another.
Teach me, teach me how to pray,
Lord, thy grace to me impart,
THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT.
253. Remove thy Foot from Evil. (L.M.)
The dress that's meant to catch the eye,
O shun temptation, and beware;
Flee from Temptation.
UNDERSTANDING shall keep thee, to deliver thee
From the stranger which flattereth with her words;
Which forsaketh the guide of her youth,
Behold, this was the inquity of Sodom, Pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness
Was in her and in her daughters, Neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me :
Therefore I took them away as I saw good. Prov. ii. 11-19; Ezek. xvi. 49.
THE woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man,
Neither shall a man put on a woman's gar
For all that do so
Are abomination unto the Lord.
Deut. xxii. 5.
I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,
Resist the Devil.
Which war against the soul.
Thou therefore, my son, be strong In the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Flee also youthful lusts :
But follow righteousness, faith, charity,
With them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.-1 Pet. ii. 11; 2 Tim. ii. 1—22.
THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT.
257. Let him that stole steal no more. (7's.)
IF I take what is not mine,
