God to give you courage always to speak the truth.

This, then, my dear child, is how you should search your own heart. Ask God to give you light. Compare yourself, not with other children, but with Jesus; and as soon as you discover your sins, confess them to God at once, and pray for pardon and strength. What was the third head? Do you remember? It was this-when should we search our hearts?

One of the best times is at night, before

you go to bed. When all is quiet and still, and you are alone with God, then look back on the day past, and ask yourself these questions, "Have I read the Bible, and applied it to my heart to-day? Have I prayed to God, and really desired to have what I prayed for? Have I thought of God, and tried to please Him throughout the day? Have I felt, that my time is precious, and tried to make the most of it? Have I been obedient to my parents and teachers? Have I been cross and

passionate with my brothers or sisters? Have I spoken without thinking first what I was going to say? When you put these and other questions to your own heart, listen between each, and hear what conscience says; and whenever it condemns you, do not try to escape from its still small voice, but carry your sin to Jesus, that it may be forgiven. The evening, then, just before you go to bed, is a good time to search your heart. David himself, seems to have searched his heart at night; for he says, "I call to remembrance my song in the night; I commune with my own heart, and my spirit made diligent search," (Psal. lxxvii. 6). But, perhaps you have tried to do this, but you find that at night you forget many things, that you have done during the day. Then, you must try to be more watchful during the day. Take notice of every thing that you do, and say, and feel. Never say in your heart, “I wont

think of this now: I will think of it when

I go to bed." Watch your heart all through the day, and lay up in your memory any sin, that you commit at the very time, and then you will be able to remember it in the evening.

My dear young friend, are you like David? do you desire to know your own heart? Perhaps, some are saying within themselves, "No, I wish to be happy, and if I knew my own heart, I should not be happy." That is quite wrong; none are really happy but those, who know their own hearts; for they learn to know Jesus too. It is true that they find a great many sins within them, but they bring them all to Jesus, and He washes them away in His own blood, and leads them in the way everlasting. Oh how happy they are; Jesus is their physician-their Saviour, their friend. When they die, He will go with them through the valley of the shadow of death, and they will be with Jesus for ever, and cast their crowns throughout eternity at Ilis feet. Pray

then with David, "Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked. way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

PHILIP;

Or, the desire to know the Father.

Do you remember the name of the little town, where Philip lived? You will find it, if you turn to (John i. 44). It was Bethsaida, and is situated at the north end of the sea of Galilee. Andrew and Peter lived there also. Perhaps they knew Philip, before they all knew Jesus, but we are not told so. One day, Jesus went to Galilee, and He found Philip, and said to him, "Follow Me." It was not by accident, that Jesus found him, oh! no. He went on purpose to find him, and to save his soul. So, Jesus comes now, my dear young friend, to find you, and to save your precious soul. To you, He says,
