A new edition of these Lectures seems to require a brief introduction. They were prepared and preached in consequence of an exigency in the course of the Author's ministry. They went to the press, partly because he was abundantly challenged to print them if he dared; and partly in the hope that they might contribute somewhat toward the suppression of a baneful and spreading error. The latter reason, strengthened by the favorable reception of the first edition, induces the Author to present them to the public anew. Without being materially altered, they have undergone a condensing process. They are published now, as at first, at no man's instigation, and under no man's censorship.
