those who are in want. May they always keep in mind that they are no other than stewards, answerable to Thee for the use they make of the advantages and comforts they enjoy; and, that in proportion as Thou hast given them more, the more and higher returns of gratitude, obedience, and love wilt Thou require at their hands.

Now unto Thee, the omnipotent, infinite, and eternal Jehovah! may there be ascribed all honour, glory, praise, and power, thanksgiving and blessing, henceforth and for evermore.-Amen.

EIGHTH ADDRESS.

O LORD, most holy, benevolent, righteous, and good! without beginning of days or e d of years! Thou dwellest in light inaccessible and full of glory. Thou art He whom no mortal eye hath seen or can see. Thou art great and greatly to be praised, and most worthy to be had in the highest reverence by all to whom Thou hast imparted the gift of existence.

All thy works praise Thee, O Lord! and I thy creature and thy child desire, with my whole heart, to extol and magnify thy holy name, and to speak of all thy marvellous works;--power, wisdom, and mercy are thine. Thou hast filled the earth with the riches of thy goodness. Thou hast ordained the sun, the moon and the stars to fulfil thy purposes of mercy-to preserve to us the constant and agreeable succession of day and night, summer and winter, seed-time and harvest. Thou art graciously pleased to prepare and ripen the various fruits which thy bountiful goodness and ever-flowing

benevolence have provided for the support of thy dependent creatures.

I, thy unworthy offspring, desire to praise and magnify thy holy name. I praise Thee O God! that thy goodness is not confined to the present world, but that Thou hast excited in thy creatures a pleasing hope of a future life; and hast taught them to expect and prepare for an immortality of glory and blessedness.

I rejoice in Thee as the God and Father of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! I would be for ever thankful for all the privileges and advantages conferred upon me by his gospel, and for all the animating prospects and encouragements to the love and practise of holiness and virtue which it contains. Well may I exclaim, O Lord my God! how unspeakable are my obligations to Thee! Bless the Lord, O my soul! and let all that is within me unite to adore and rejoice in thy goodness to me and to the whole world around me.

May it please Thee to forgive me, O thou God of mercy! that I have not been more sensible of my obligations-more grateful for thy goodness-and more attentive and diligent in the improvement of

the talents committed to my trust.

For

give me, O Lord! whatever has been sinful in my temper and conduct in any of the former part of my life; and may I be enabled to know and to do thy holy and righteous will in all respects for the time to come.

From a sense of gratitude may I devote myslf to Thee, the Lord my God! and walk before Thee in the punctual discharge of every duty that is incumbent upon me. May I increase more and more in fervent piety towards Thee, my God! in all the duties of self-government and temperance, and in all the principles of righteousness and benevolence. May every grace and virtue which constitute and adorn the christian character be nourished in my heart, govern my temper, and be habitually practised in my life-that I may be constantly growing in the divine likeness, and be preparing for enlarged enjoyments of thy favour here and hereafter.

Be graciously pleased to hear my prayers for all my brethren of mankind. Send the light of thy glorious gospel through every part of the habitable world; and, wherever it slines, may it be the means of spreading

not only knowledge and truth, but righteousness and peace amongst men. Grant, I beseech Thee, consolation and relief to those that are sick and afflicted-that are poor and in distress; and, from thy inexhaustible mercy, communicate to all according to their necessities and defects.

Conscious of my own weakness and insufficiency, I rejoice that I am permitted to hope, trust, and rely upon Thee, the all-sufficient God! the eternal source of life and hapiness! I would cheerfully leave myself and all my interests to the disposal of thy infinite wisdom and perfect goodness; praying that Thou wilt be my God and my guide-that I may be truly thy servant-diligently seeking thy favour through the whole of life-anxious to be found faithful, even unto death, and, finally be admitted to thy glorious presence and kingdom above. There every thing that is imperfect will be done away-there I shall join my virtuous friends again—and there all will be love, harmony, and felicity, for evermore.--Amen.
