Shower down thy choicest blessings upon all who are near and dear to me my relations and friends-my patrons and benefactors. Reward all those who have done or wished me good; and as I have received freely from them, may I be disposed freely to impart to others.

Endue me with a right and becoming frame of mind towards all my fellow-creatures; to those more particularly who have been hostile to me and designedly obstructed my welfare and success in life. I beseech Thee, O God! to turn their hearts and to forgive them all their sins and offences.

Show thyself to be a father to the fatherless and the widow's God-a very present help to all in time of adversity—a refuge to the forlorn and forsaken-and a friend of those who know no friend on earth.

These my imperfect addresses to Thee, the eternal, infinite, and inexhaustible fountain of all happiness! I would now conclude with humbly committing myself and all my affairs into thy hands, entreating Thee, O Lord, my heavenly Father! to take me under thy special care and protection—to guard me against all future dangers-to strengthen

me against every surrounding temptation and trial to preserve me from every real evil→→→→ and to cause all things to work together for my final good.

To Thee the supreme Sovereign of all

worlds! the one only wise, living, and true God! be all honour, praise, thanksgiving, and blessing, for ever.-Amen.

FIFTEENTH ADDRESS.

ETERNAL Father! Lord of all consolation and grace the supreme and uncontrouled disposer of all events! with sincerity of heart and deep humility of soul I would now lift up the voice of prayer and supplication unto Thee, and implore thy gracious and unceas ing care. 1 desire to be found frequent in my prayers, in my praises, and thanksgiving to Thee the Lord my God! to acknowledge both my own great helplessness and insufficiency and my entire dependance upon Thee. It highly becomes me with joy and gratitude to worship, serve, and obey Thee as the author of all good--to give thanks to thy holy name for ever to devote myself unreservedly to Thee in the paths of righteousness, piety, and peace.

T

Forgive me, O my God! that I have not been more constant and frequent in the exercises of devotion, and more uniform and regular in my obedience. Forgive me that my heart has been at any time inattentive to my obligations to Thee my heavenly Father!

whom I am bound by every tie to honour, love, and obey. I would condemn myself for every transgression of thy holy and righteous laws-for every neglect of duty-for every degree of lukewarmness and indifference of which I have been guilty.

I beseech Thee, O thou God of mercy, to pardon my sins, to blot out all my transgressions, and so accept me as one who is sincerely solicitous to be reconciled to Thee by true repentance and amendment. O may I never more be chargeable with ingratitude or disobedience, but may all my future life he consistent with my obligations, hopes, and expectations: may I be ever duly mindful of the returns I owe to Thee for thy continual and unwearied benignity, and may my heart never reproach me so long as I live for my insensibility and ingratitude.

May 1, with humble confidence, consider myself as heir to those exceeding great and precious promises delivered in the gospel. Strengthen my faith that it may have a more invigorating influence over my future conduct. May my obedience be such as shall increase and promote my reliance upon Thee, my God! and grant that the joy

arising from this source may animate my obedience, and confirm my hopes and prospects, as to another world, until I shall be happily matured to a blessed fitness for thy glorious presence.

O take me in mercy to those blessed regions where all is joy, harmony, and evergrowing felicity, such as it is not possible for the human heart to conceive, but what is assuredly prepared for all that truly love Thee and keep thy commandments. Be graciously attentive to the wants and necessities of all that are in poverty, sorrow, or distress of any kind. Incline me to sympathize with them under their several afflictions; and to be at all times willing to assist, as far as lies in my power, to alleviate the burdens under which they labour. Impart gladness to the mourners in every region of the earth; give them the oil of rejoicing instead of sorrow, and the clothing of praise instead of the spirit of heaviness.

Fulfil the desires and petitions which I now present unto Thee, O thou God of my life and the lengthener out of my days! The government of the whole universe and
