PRAYER XI. ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, who art ever present with us and rejoicest over us continually to do us good! It is thou who daily spreadest our table and fillest our cup; who givest us peaceful abodes; and causest the glad tidings of life and immortality to resound in our ears. may we never prove unmindful of the hand that formed us, or cease to listen to that voice which calls us to the pursuit of glory, virtue, and true happiness. May we yield to thy benevolent commands the obedience of the heart; receive with filial reverence all thy fatherly dispensations; and in our whole frame of mind and course of life copy the model which he has left us, who did no sin, neither was guile found in his lips, and who went about doing good. Pardon, Father of mercies, the imperfection of our best services: help us to discover and to correct our faults; and dispose all the cir cumstances of our lives for our ad vancement in goodness, and our preparation for immortal happiness. May we ourselves, and all that are dear to us, and the universal race of mankind be found walking in those paths which are blest with peace of conscience, mutual esteem and friendship, and a joyful sense of thy favour and approbation, who art the ruler and judge of all! In thy fear and love may we live, and die with a good hope towards thee our God; and finally be admitted to share thy bounty and do thy will and celebrate thy praise for ever PRAYER XII. O THOU who art exalted above all blessing and praise; who doest great things and unsearchable; whose counsel standeth for ever; and whose tender mercies are over all thy works. Blessed be thou, O God, who hast called us into life; hast given us all things richly to enjoy; unbarred to our desires and hopes the gates of immortality; and taught us to aspire from knowledge |
