PRAYER XIX.

O MOST holy and gracious God, our heavenly Father, the God and Father of all, who crownest our days with loving-kindness, and hast called us to glory, honour, and immortality; may we not receive with unthankful hearts thy manifold blessings, nor withhold from the wants of our fellow-creatures the good which thou hast empowered us to communicate; nor by the in

temperate and unadvised use of any of thy fatherly gifts, unfit ourselves for greater happiness. If thy mercies flow in upon us in a course of temporal prosperity, may we recognize thy goodness in every comfort, and devote ourselves more affectionately to thy service. And if temporal favours be withdrawn, and we are visited with affliction, still let us trust in thy unchangeable and perfect love, and learn wisdom and righteousness by the things we suffer. Thou knowest what is best;

not our will but thine be done.

In thy wise and gracious hands we repose all our concerns; and under all the circumstances of our being we desire to serve thee with upright, benevolent, and pious hearts, in whatsoever way thou seest fit to render us thy ministers for good to those around us. Bless our friends and relatives, and the whole family of mankind, with every real comfort; and may they, together with ourselves, partake of the more exalted joys of a

future and a better world.

To

thee, the Lord of heaven and earth,

be all glory and dominion for ever.

Amen.
