PRAYER XXII.

In case of Death.

ETERNAL God! in whose hands

our breath is, and the breath of all mankind, unto thee do we lift up

our souls. To whom should we. look for help or comfort, but to thee our Father in Heaven? For thou dost not willingly afflict thy children; and under thy fatherly hand we desire to humble ourselves

at all times, and to say,

"Not our

will but thine be done." O how

great is thy goodness to the frail

and dying children of men, in set

ting before us the prospect of life and immortality! O how precious to the mourning soul is the blessed hope of meeting long-parted friends in some happy mansion of our Father's house! Grant, O merciful Father, that in this hope our souls may be more and more confirmed and comforted; hereby may we be engaged to devote our remaining lives to thy most holy service ;

whereinsoever thou seest fit to

render us to each other thy instru

ments of good, may we thankfully

work together with thy good providence. And whereinsoever thou seest fit to frustrate our hopes and

our desires, may we trust in thy fatherly mercy, and humbly adore thine eternal wisdom. Thou canst make all the joys and sorrows of this transitory life work together for good to them that love thee, and keep thy commandments; thou canst restore every comfort; enlarge every capacity; and exalt our

happiness beyond all that we can ask or think. To thee, O Father,

be unchangeable glory and dominion, never-ending gratitude and praise. Amen.
