SCENE ON THE LAKE OF GENNESARET.

LUKE V. The lake of Gennesaret, which is the same as the lake of Galilee and the sea of Tiberias, so frequently mentioned in the Gospels, is a spot of deep interest and beauty. It was evidently a favourite resort of our Lord Jesus Christ, whether to teach the people, who crowded the villages of the plain on the margin of the lake, or for solitude and retirement on the hills. On the side of the Gadarenes, called “ the other side of the lake," the mountains of Bashan stand up precipitously from the water, and stretch into the distance; on the north, appears the ridge of Mount IIermon ; and on the west, where the cultivated hills approach in some parts close to the shore, they form coves and pebbly beaches.

It was probably in one of these, that Peter was mending
