SPIRITUAL SONGS.

Coloss. i. 19.

1-I lay my sins on Jesus,

The spotless Lamb of God;
He bears them all, and frees us
From the accursed load.

I bring my guilt to Jesus,
To wash my crimson stains,
White in His blood most precious,
Till not a spot remains.

2-I lay my wants on Jesus;
All fulness dwells in Him:

He heals all my diseases,
He doth my soul redeem.
I lay my griefs on Jesus,

My burdens and my cares;
He from them all releases,
He all my sorrow shares.

3-I rest my soul on Jesus,
This weary soul of mine;
His right hand me embraces,
I on His breast recline.

7.6.

[blocks in formation]

I love the name of Jesus,
Immanuel, Christ, the Lord;
Like fragrance on the breezes
His name abroad is poured.
4-I long to be like Jesus,

Meek, loving, lowly, mild;
I long to be like Jesus,
The Father's holy child.
I long to be with Jesus

Amid the heavenly throng,
To sing with saints His praises,
To learn the angels' song.

1 Cor. vi. 19, 20.

H. BONAR.

1-When this passing world is done,
When has sunk yon glaring sun,
When we stand with Christ in glory,
Looking o'er life's finished story,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,—
Not till then, how much I owe.

2-When I hear the wicked call

On the rocks and hills to fall,
When I see them start and shrink,
On the fiery deluge brink,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,-
Not till then, how much I owe.

7's.

3-When I stand before the throne,
Dress'd in beauty not my own,
When I see Thee as Thou art,
Love Thee with unsinning heart,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,—
Not till then, how much I owe.

4-When the praise of heav'n I hear,
Loud as thunders to the ear,
Loud as many waters' noise,
Sweet as harp's melodious voice,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,-
Not till then, how much I owe.

5-Chosen not for good in me,
Waken'd up from wrath to flee,
Hidden in the Saviour's side,
By the Spirit sanctified,

Teach me, Lord, on earth to show,
By my love, how much I owe.

6-Oft I walk beneath the cloud,
Dark as midnight's gloomy shroud;
But when fear is at the height,
Jesus comes, and all is light.
Blessed Jesus! bid me show

Doubting saints how much I owe.

R. M. M'CHEYNE.

[blocks in formation]

1-Lord, it belongs not to my care,
Whether I die or live;

To love and serve Thee is my share,
And this Thy grace must give.

2-If life be long, I will be glad,
That I may long obey;

If short, yet why should I be sad
To soar to endless day?

C.M.

3-Christ leads me through no darker rooms
Than He went through before;
He that unto God's kingdom comes,
Must enter by His door.

4-Come, Lord, when grace has made me meet Thy blessed face to see ;

For if Thy work on earth be sweet,
What will Thy glory be?

5-Then shall I end my sad complaints,
And weary sinful days,

And join with the triumphant saints,
Who sing Jehovah's praise.

6-My knowledge of that life is small,
The eye of faith is dim;

But 'tis enough that Christ knows all,
And I shall be with Him.

R. BAXTER.

John vi. 37.

P.M.

1-Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bid'st me come to Thee,-
O Lamb of God, I come!

2-Just as I am,-and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,

To thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come!

3-Just as I am,-though toss'd about With many a conflict, many a doubt, With fears within and wars without

O Lamb of God, I come!

4-Just as I am,-poor, wretched, blind,—
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need, in thee to find,-—

O Lamb of God, I come!
