2 Vine of Heav'n! Thy blood supplies
This blest cup of sacrifice:

Lord thy wounds our healing give;
To thy Cross we look, and live.
3 Day by day with strength supply'd,
Through the life of Him who died;
Lord of Life! O let us be

Rooted, grafted, built on Thee!

1 OBE

[blocks in formation]

BEDIENT to Thy gracious word,
In meek humility,

This will I do, my Saviour Lord!-
I will remember Thee!

2 Thy body, broken for my sake,

My "Bread from heav'n" shall be:
Thy sacramental cup I take,

And thus remember Thee.

3 When to the Cross I turn mine eyes, And rest on Calvary,

O Lamb of God, my sacrifice!

I must remember Thee.

4 Remember Thee, and all Thy pains,
And all Thy love to me-

Yea, while a breath, a pulse remains,
Will I remember Thee!

HYMN XLV. P. M.

FROM Greenland's icy mountains,

From India's coral strand,

Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand,

From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,
They call us to deliver

Their land from error's chain.

2 What though the spicy breezes
Blow soft o'er Java's isle,
Though ev'ry prospect pleases,
And only man is vile;
In vain with lavish kindness
The gifts of God are strewn,
The Heathen, in his blindness,

1

Bows down to wood and stone.
3 Can we whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high,
Can we to men benighted
The lamp of life deny?
Salvation! O Salvation!

The joyful sound proclaim,
Till each remotest nation

Has learn'd Messiah's reign!
4 Waft, waft, ye winds, His story,
And you, ye waters, roll,
Till, like a sea of glory,

It spreads from pole to pole;
Till, o'er our ransom'd nature,
The Lamb for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reign!

HYMN XLVI. L.M.

0 SPIRIT of the Living God,

In all Thy plenitude of grace, Where'er the foot of man hath trod, Descend upon our fallen race!

2 Give tongues of fire, and hearts of love, To preach the reconciling word! Give power and unction from above, Where'er the joyful sound is heard! 3 O Spirit of the Lord! prepare

The spacious earth her God to meet! Breathe Thou abroad, like morning air, Till hearts of stone shall learn to beat! 4 Baptize the nations; far and nigh The triumphs of the Cross record; The Name of Jesus glorify,

Till ev'ry kindred call him LORD!

HYMN XLVII.

C. M.

HY throne, O God, in righteousness
For ever shall endure:

THY

We bow before it: deign to bless
The children of the poor!

2 Thy wisdom fix'd our lowly birth,
Yet we Thy goodness share;

Still make us, while we dwell on earth,
The children of Thy care!

3 Thou art our Shepherd, glorious God!
Thy little flock behold,

And guide us by Thy staff and rod,
The children of Thy fold!

4 We praise Thy Name that we are brought To this Thy holy place;

That we are watch'd, and warn'd, and taught,
The children of Thy grace.

5 O may our friends, Thy servants here,
Meet all our souls above,

And they and we in heav'n appear
The children of Thy love

On the King's Accession.

HYMN XLVIII.

REAT King of Kings! thy blessings On our anointed Sov'reign's head; [shed With fav'ring eyes look down from heav'n, And guard the crown Thyself hast giv'n! 2 Lord, with Thy mighty arm oppose Our Monarch's and his people's foes, And in abundant streams impart Thy grace to sanctify his heart! 3 Thou, ever mindful of his want, Through all his days Thy favour grant; And bid the royal circlet spread Its purest splendours round his head! 4 And, oh! when earthly thrones decay, And earthly kingdoms fade away, Grant him a throne in worlds on high, A crown of immortality!

For a Fast during War.

HYMN XLIX.

C. M.

RRAY'D against our nation, Lord,
The powers of darkness rage,

And the great kingdoms of the earth
Unholy warfare wage.

2 They say, O God, Thou wilt not hear,
Thou, Lord, wilt not regard:

But each dark crime is known to Thee,
And meets its just reward.

3 The Father of the fatherless,
The Helper of the weak,

Thy hand shall ev'ry wrong redress,
Thy voice shall comfort speak.

4 And soon shall dawn that blessed day,
When war and sin shall cease,
And earth, beneath Messiah's sway,
Enjoy perpetual peace.

For a Thanksgiving after Victory.

HYMN L. L. M.

WHILE nations, fir'd with mutual rage,
In fierce contention warfare wage,
God reigns on heaven's eternal throne,
And makes their will subserve his own.

2 On horses some their hope repose;
Some urge the chariot on their foes;
But we such feeble trust disclaim;
Our trust is in Jehovah's Name.

3 The God whom heav'n and earth obey
Did shield us in the dreadful day;
The God of battles o'er our head
His own victorious banner spread.

4 The God of battles, Thee we own;
All vict'ry, Lord, is Thine alone :
To Thee our grateful hearts we raise,
And own Thy hand, and sing Thy praise.
