37. The History of David,
2nd Part.

But David sinned greatly, in causing the death of Uriah, the Hittite, and in then marrying the wife of Uriah.

Then Nathan the prophet came unto David and said; "There were two men in one city, the one rich and the other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks, and herds.'

"But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and bred up and it grew up together with him and with his children."

"And there came a traveller unto the rich man: and he spared his own flock, but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.'

Then David said, "The man that did this thing shall surely diǝ; because he did this thing, and had no pity." And Nathan said unto David, "THOU ART THE MAN."

The people then gathered together to David: and he sent his armies against Absalom, who was slain. And David mourned over his son Absalom.

Now when king David was old and stricken in years, he appointed that Solomon his son should reign after him. And Zadok the priest anointed Solomon king. And they blew the trumpet, and the people cried, "God save king Solomon." And David slept with his fathers.

And in the fourth year of his reign, he began to build a temple unto the Lord, and he was seven years in building it. And he assembled all

the people of Israel to dedicate the temple to the Lord. Then Solomon prayed unto the Lord; saying, "O God of Israel, let thy word I pray thee be established, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father."

"That thine eyes may be open toward this house, night and day; and to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray towards this place: then hear thou, in Heaven thy dwelling place; and when thou hearest forgive."

41. The History of Solomon,

Then Solomon stood up, and blessed all the congregation of Israel, with a loud voice, saying, "The Lord our God be with us, and incline
