The following petitions were presented, and on motion refer red to the Committee on New Parishes and Churches:

A petition to organize a new congregation in St. John's Parish, Washington county.

A petition to change the name of Grace Church, Ellicott's Mills, Anne Arundel county.

A petition to organize a new parish in All Hallows Parish, Worcester county.

A petition to define the metes and bounds of St. Andrew's Church, Clear Spring, and St. Paul's Church, Sharpsburg.

On motion, Resolved, That a committee of two persons be ap pointed by the Chair to take charge of the edition of the Canons lately printed, and sell the same upon the terms of the resolution passed by the Convention, and pay the proceeds to the Treasurer of the Convention.

The Chair appointed the Rev. F. A. Baker and F. W. Brune, Jr. Esq. said committee.

On motion, Resolved, That the election of Standing Committee be made the order of the day for to-morrow morning, at 11 o'clock.

The Chair presented the following communication from the Bishop, which was read, and on motion, the nomination was approved.

To the Convention of the Diocese of Maryland:

BRETHREN,-By the Eighth Canon of this Diocese, the Bishop, by and with the advice of a majority of the Diocesan Convention, is to fill all vacancies which may occur in the Ecclesiastical Court for the Diocese.

One such vacancy has been occasioned, by the removal of the Rev. Wm. H. Rees, a member of the Court, to the Diocese of Connecticut.

To fill the vacancy, I nominate the Rev. Clement F. Jones, D. D., and respectfully ask for the nomination the advice and consent of the Convention.

Bishop of Maryland.

THURSDAY MORNING, May 31, 1849.

The Convention met at 9 o'clock.

Morning Prayer having been previously said at 6 o'clock, and the Holy Communion administered at 8, the President took the chair and called the Convention to order.

The roll was called, and the minutes of yesterday afternoon's proceedings were read and approved.

The following Lay Delegates presented their testimonials, which were approved by the committee, and signed the declaration.

On motion, Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed by the President to take into consideration so much of the Bishop's Address as refers to the publication of a Diocesan Paper. The Chair appointed as said committee, the

On motion, Resolved, That the Committee on the support of the Clergy, and the distribution within the diocese of the Prayer Book, referred to in the Address of the Bishop, be continued, with leave to report to the next Convention.

On motion, Resolved, that the Charge of the Bishop to the Clergy be now read, as agreed upon between the Bishop and the clergy.

Whereupon the Rev. J. B. Kerfoot, by request, proceeded to read the Charge.

On motion, Resolved, that the Bishop's Charge, just read, be published with the Journal, and that 500 extra copies be printed.

On motion, Resolved, that Messrs. W. J. Blackistone and B. Ogle Tayloe, who have presented certificates of election as lay delegates, signed by their Rectors, be admitted to seats in the Convention.

The annual report of the Board of Trustees of the Episcopal Fund, was presented, and on motion, ordered to be printed on the Journal.
