"The subject is treated in a masterly manner, the grand curve of the Horseshoe in the foreground leading the eye up to the tumbling, raging rapids above, and the broad expanse of river beyond, with the islands in the middle distance and the face of the farther curve of the Horseshoe as well as the great white wall of the American fall partially obscured by the cloud of rising spray which is handled lightly with fine effect. In the great amphitheatre below the falls are seen the boiling waters strongly and effectively depicted, and the two staunch little steamers that make their tours under the constant showers of spray. Never before has this subject been handled by any artist with equal force and impressive dignity, combined with deep, thorough feeling and delicacy of touch."-The Railway Age.

The Opinions of Those Who Speak Not Only From Rare Judgment, but from Wide Experience and Knowledge.

"This book is destined to live, and should be carefully perused by every citizen who desires to know the history of his country during the last forty years, and to this end it should find a place in every city, college, town and private library throughout the land."The Sun, New York.

"The most interesting of new books is 'John Sherman's Recollections.' A book from the pen of one who took so conspicuous a part in these great forty years cannot fail to command attention. Such books help to make history."-The Tribune, Chicago.

"John Sherman is a name to conjure with among the friends of honest money."- The Herald, Boston.

"Before noticing what Senator Sherman says it may be profitable to note who Senator Sherman is. Twenty years ago, in the deep shadow of the disaster of 1873, he put through Congress the Resumption act, and was presently appointed Secretary of the Treasury to carry it into effect. What financiers of Europe and this country then declared utterly impossible, he did. The most eminent statesmen of other nations, such as Mr. Gladstone, have repeatedly pointed to the resumption of specie payments by the United States, as the greatest financial achievement on record.' The Tribune, New York.
