KINGSTON-UPON-HULL: JOSEPH W. LENG. 1860. 138. d. 44. Since the first Edition of the following prayers was exhausted, the Author has frequently been requested to re-publish them. He has, however, hitherto declined to do so, under the impression that so many works of a similar nature are already in the hands of the Christian public, as to render a re-publication of his own, unnecessary and inexpedient. The reason which induces him, at length, to comply with the oft-repeated solicitations of his friends is simply this-He finds that, besides the frequent applications made to himself, the little manual is still asked for, from time to time, at the Booksellers' shops; and one gentleman has kindly promised, that, if a new Edition of it is printed, he will encourage its sale, by taking a large number of copies, for the use of himself and those of his acquaintance who are alive to the important duty of Family prayer. On revising the former Edition, the Author, not being in the habit of using the book himself, finds a greater number of errors, in the printing and punctuation, than he was aware of. These he is, of course, glad of the opportunity of correcting. The alterations in the prayers themselves are few, and consist, chiefly, in the change of certain expressions, for others which appeared to him to be more simple, and, on that account, more suitable. May the Holy Spirit smile upon this feeble effort to aid the interests of vital godliness. Hull, September 1st, 1860. |
