ASTRONOMICAL OCCURRENCES. THE MOON is near Mars during the morning hours of the 23rd and 24th being to his right on the former, and left of Mars on the latter day. She is situated to the right of Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus on the morning of the 25th, Jupiter being the furthest and Venus the nearest of the three planets. On the morning of the 26th she is to the left of the same planets, being nearest to Jupiter and furthest from Venus, the planets Saturn and Venus being near to each other; and she is near Mercury on the morning of the 20th. Her phases or times of change are:

Last Quarter New Moon She is nearest the Earth on the 16th, and most distant from it' on the 4th. MERCURY rises on the 1st at 4h. 12m. a.m., or 22 minutes before sunrise; on the 11th at 4h. 4m. a.m., or 13 minutes before sunrise; on the 18th the planet and Sun rise nearly together, and from this day till July 20 Mercury rises in daylight. On the 17th he sets at nearly the same time as the Sun, 29 minutes after sunset on the 21st; and at 9h. 34m. p m., or 1h. 31m. after sunset, on the last day of the month. He is near Saturn on the 6th, near Jupiter on the 7th, in his ascending node on the 16th, in superior conjunction with the Sun on the 17th, at his least distance from the Sun on the 20th, and

near the Moon on the 29th.

VENUS sets on the 1st at 8h. 2m. p.m., or 41 minutes after sunset; on the 5th she sets with the Sun, and from this day until the end of the year she

sets in daylight. She rises 30 minutes before sunrise on the 1st; on the 11th at 8h. 29m. a.m., or 48 minutes before the Sun; on the 21st at 2h. 59m. a.m., or 1h. 4m. before sunrise; and on the last day at 2h. 32m. a.m., or 1h. 20m. before sunrise. She is in inferior conjunction with the Sun on the 3rd, stationary among the stars on the 22nd, in her descending node on the 23rd, and near the Moon on the 25th.

MARS is a morning star, rising at 3h. 14m. a.m. on the 1st, at 2h. 47m. a.m. on the 11th, at 2h. 19m. a.m. on the 21st, and at 1h. 53m. a.m. on the last day, being 1h. 20m., 1h. 80m., 1h. 44m., and 1h. 59m. before sunrise on these days respectively. He is due south on the 1st at 8h. 53m. a.m., on the 15th at 8h. 37m. a.m., and on the last day at 8h. 19m. a.m. He is near the Moon on the 23rd, and at his least distance from the Sun on the 26th.

JUPITER is a morning star, rising on the 1st at 4h. 26m. a.m., or 8 minutes before sunrise; on the 11th at 3h. 52m. a.m., or 25 minutes before sunrise; on the 21st at 3h. 18m. a.m., or 45 minutes before the Sun; and on the last day at 2h. 42m. p.m., or 1h. 10m. before sunrise. He is due south on the 1st at 11h. 33m. a.m., on the 15th at 10h. 51m. a.m., and on the last day at 10h. 2m. a.m. He is near Mercury on the 7th, and near the Moon on the 25th at about midnight.

SATURN is a morning star, rising on the 1st at 4h. 31m. a.m., or 3 minutes before sunrise; on the 11th at 3h. 55m. a.m., or 22 minutes before sunrise; on the 21st at 3h. 18m. a.m., or 45 minutes before sunrise; and on the last day at 2h. 41m. a.m., or 1h. 11m. before sunrise. He is due south on the 1st at 11h. 29m. a.m., on the 15th at 10h. 41m. a.m., and on the last day at 9h. 45m. a.m. He is near Mercury on the 6th, and near the Moon on the 25th.
