T that time: Jesus going out from the borders of

the middle of the territory of Decapolis. And they brought to him one deaf and dumb, and besought him to lay his hands on him. And taking him aside from the multitude, he put his fingers into his ears; and spitting, touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him; Ephpheta, that is, be opened. And forthwith his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosened, and he spoke plain. And he charged them to tell nobody; but the more he charged them, the more they published it; and so much the more did they wonder, saying: He hath done all things well; he hath made both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak. CRedo.

OFFERT. Ps. xxix. I will extol thee, O Lord, because thou hast upholden me, and hast not gratified the desires of my enemies against me; Lord, I cried out to thee, and thou didst heal me.

Exaltabo te, Domine, quoniam suscepisti me, nec delectasti inimicos meos super me; Domine, clamavi ad te, et sanasti me.

SECRET. Look down, O Lord, we beseech thee, on our homage; that the offerings we make, may be acceptable to thee, and help to our weakness. Thro'. COMM. Prov. iii. Honor the Lord out of thy substance, and with the first fruits of thy crop; and thy barns shall be filled abundantly, and thy wine-presses shall overflow.

Honora Dominum de tua substantia, et de primitiis frugum tuarum; et implebuntur horrea tua saturitate, et vino torcularia redundabunt.

POSTCOMM. Sentiamus. May we receive, by the participation of these thy mysteries, we beseech thee, O Lord, help both in body and mind; that in the salvation of both we may enjoy the full effects of this heavenly remedy. Thro'.

COLLECT. Omnipotens. O Almighty and merciful God, from whose gift it proceedeth that thy people worthily serve thee, grant we beseech thee, that we may run on, without stumbling, to the obtaining the effects of thy promises. Thro'.

RETHREN: It is is through Jesus Christ that we have such confidence in God: not that we are able of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves, but our ability is from God, who also hath made us sit ministers of the new covenant, not in the letter, but in the spirit. For the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. Now if the ministration of death, engraven with letters on stone, was so glorious, that the children of Israel could not look stedfastly on the face of Moses upon account of the glory of his countenane, which was done away: how much more glorious must the ministration of the spirit be? For if the ministration of condemnation was glorious, the ministration of righteousness must abound much more in glory.


GRAD. Ps. xxxiii. I will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall be ever in my mouth. V. My soul shall glory in the Lord: let the meek hear and rejoice. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. O Lord, the God of my slavation, I have cried out to thee day and night. Alleluia.

T that time: Jesus said to his disciples; Blessed are the eyes that see the things you see. For I say to you; Many prophets and kings have desired to see the things you see, and did not see them; and to hear the things you hear, and did not hear them. And behold a certain lawyer stood up to try him, saying; Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And he said to. him; What is written in the law? How dost thou read? He answering, said; Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said to him; Thou hast answered right; do so, and thou shalt live. But he, desirous to justify himself, said to Jesus; And who is my neighbour; And Jesus answering, said; A certain man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, met with robbers, who stripped him, and having wounded him, went away leaving him half dead. And it happened that a priest oame down that way, and seeing him, passed by. In like manner also a Levite, being near the place, and seeing him, passed by. But a Samaritan being on his journey, came near, and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And going up to him, he bound up his wounds, pouring into them oil and wine; and setting him on his own breast, brought him to an Inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two-pence, and gave them to the host, and said; Take care of him; and whatever thou shalt lay out more, at my retnrn I will repay thee. Which of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor to him, who met the robbers? And he said; he that shewed mercy to him. And Jesus said to him; Go thou, and do in like manner. CREDO.

OFFERT. Exod. xxxii. Precatus est Moyses in Moses prayed in the pre- conspectu Domini Dei sui, sence of the Lord his God, et dixit; Quare, Domine, and said; Why, O Lord, irasceris in populo tuo? art thou angry at thy peo- Parce iræ animæ tuæ; meple? Spare the wrath of mento Abraham, Isaac et thy soul; remember Abra- Jacob, quibus jurasti dare ham, Isaac, and Jacob, to terram fluentem lac et mel; whom thou didst sware to et placatus factus est Domigive a land flowing with. nus de malignitate, quam milk and honey; and the dixit facere populo suo. Lord was appeased, and did

not do the mischief he had threatened his people.

SECRET. Mercifully look down, O Lord, on the offerings we lay on thy holy altars; that they may be to the honour of thy name by obtaining pardon for us.


COMM. Ps. ciii. The earth, O Lord, shall be filled with the fruit of thy works; that thou may'st bring forth bread from the earth, and wine may rejoice the heart of man; that his face may shine with oil, and bread may strengthen the heart of man.

De fructu operum tuorum, Domine, satiabitur terra, et vinum lætificet cor hominis ; ut exhilaret faciem in oleo, et panis cor hominis confirmet."

POSTCOMM. Vivisicet. May the sacred participation of these thy mysteries, O Lord, we beseech thee, give us life; and be both an expiation and protection to us. Thro'.

EPISTLE. Gal. iii. 16. 22.

RETHREN: The promises were made to Abraham, and to his seed. God saith not; and to thy seeds, as if in many; but as in one; and to thy seed, who is the Christ. Now what I say is this; that the covenant confirmed by God, is not disannulled by the law made four hundred and thirty years after, so as to make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance come of the law, it is no longer in consequence of the promise. Now God gave it Abraham by promise. To what purpose therefore was the law given? It was given because of transgressions, until the seed should come, to whom the promise had been made, being ordained by angels in the hand of a Mediator, Now a Mediator is not of one; but God is one. Was the law therefore contrary to the pro mises of God? God forbid. But if there had been a law made, that could have given life, then righteousness would certainly have been of the law. But the scripture hath shut up, all things under sin, that the promise, by faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to them that believe.

GRAD. Ps. lxxiii. Look down, O Lord, on thy cotenant, and forget not for ever the souls of thy poor ones. V. Arise, O Lord, judge thy own cause: remember how thy servants are upbraided. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. Thou, O Lord, art our refuge from generation to generation. Alleluia.

Respice, Domine, in testamentum tuum; et animas pauperum tuorum ne obliviscaris in finem. V. Exurge, Domine, et judica causam tuam; memor esto opprobrii servorum tuorum. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. Domine, refugium factus es nobis a generatione et progenie. Alleluia.

T that time: As Jesus went to Jerusalem, he

going into a certain village, there met him ten men, who were lepers; and they stood at a distance, and raised their voice, saying; Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. As soon as he saw them, he said; Go, shew yourselves to the Priests. And it came to pass, as they went, that
