So the servants of king 6 Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

And

Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed 7 me. Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to b his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from 9 Lachish. And he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, [Behold,] he is come out to fight against thee: and

he sent messengers [again] 10 to Hezekiah, saying, Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the 11 king of Assyria. Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands,

He wrote also letters, to rail on the LORD, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of mine hand so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

by destroying them utterly: and 12 shalt thou be delivered? Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar? 13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?

14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before 15 the LORD. And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD, the God of Israel, that sittest upon the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. 16 Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see and hear. the words of Sennacherib, wherewith he hath sent [him] to reproach the living 17 God. have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they have de19 stroyed them. Now therefore,

And they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

And they spake of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.

Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted f 27 before it be grown up.
