10 For God is not unrighteous, to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have fhewed toward his name, in that ye have miniftered to the faints, and do minifter.

II And we defire that every one of you do fhew the fame diligence, to the full affurance of hope unto the end:

12 That ye be not flothful, but followers of them, who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could fwear by no greater, he fware by himself,

14 Saying, Surely bleffing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. 15 And fo, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

16 For men verily swear by the greater and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all ftrife.

17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to fhew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath :

18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impoffible for God to lie, we

might have a ftrong confolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope fet before us:

19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the foul, both fure and ftedfaft, and which entereth into that within the vail;

OW faith is the fubftance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not feen.

2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, fo that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent facrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he

was righteous, God teftifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead, yet speaketh.

5 By faith Enoch was tranflated, that he should not fee death; and was not found, because God had tranflated him for before his

tranflation

tranflation he had this tefti- promifed. mony, that he pleased God.

6 But without faith it is impoffible to please him. For he that cometh to God muft believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently feek him.

7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the faving of his houfe; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he

went.

9 By faith he fojourned in the land of promife as in a ftrange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Ifaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the fame promise :

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

II Through faith alfo Sara herself received ftrength to conceive feed, and was delivered of a child when she was paft age, becaufe fhe judged him faithful who had

13 Thefe all died in faith, not having received the promifes, but having feen them afar off, and were perfuaded of them, and embraced them, and confeffed that they were ftrangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

16 But now they defire a better country, that is, an heavenly. Wherefore God is not afhamed to be called their God, for he hath prepared for them a city.

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Ifaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only-begotten fon.

18 Of whom it was said, That in Ifaac fhall thy feed be called:

19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up even from the dead; from whence

alfo

alfo he received him in a figure.

20 By faith Ifaac bleffed Jacob and Efau concerning things to come.

28 Through faith he kept the paffover and the sprinkling of blood, left he that deftroyed the first-born fhould touch them.

21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, bleffed both the fons of Jofeph; and wor-dry land: which the Egyptifhipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

29 By faith they paffed through the Red-fea as by

22 By faith Jofeph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Ifrael; and gave commandment concerning his bones. 23 By faith Mofes, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they faw he was a proper child and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compaffed about seven days.

31 By faith the harlot Ra-: hab perifhed not with them that believed not, when the had received the fpies with peace.

32 And what shall I more fay? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of 24 By faith Mofes, when Barak, and of Samfon, and he was come to years, refufed of Jephthae; of David also, to be called the fon of Pha-and Samuel, and of the proraoh's daughter;

25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of fin for a season;

26 Efteeming the reproach of Chrift greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

27 By faith he forfook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured as feeing him who is invifible.
