OXFORD.

March 12.-The Examiners for the Ireland Scholarship have elected William Basil Tichell Jones, Scholar of Trinity College, to be the Ireland Scholar for 1842

Mar. 19.-New Professorships.-" Whereas her Majesty has graciously intimated her royal will and intention to found two new Theological Professorships in this University; and by an Act of Parliament passed in the Session holden in the 3rd and 4th years of her Majesty's reign, it is provided that the said Professorships shall eventually be endowed with two Canonries of Christ Church: and whereas it is earnestly desired that Letters Patent should be obtained as soon as possible constituting the said Professorships, and enabling the University to make regulations for the due government thereof, and that with a view thereto stipends should be provided ad interim for the two Professorships, after their nomination by the Crown; in a Convocation holden on Thursday last, at twelve o'clock, it was agreed to grant to each of the said Professors the sum of 3002. per annum, as a stipend ad interim, to be paid to each of them by half-yearly payments from the time when he shall be appointed to his office, to the time when he shall succeed to the Canonry assigned to his Professorship by the above-mentioned Act of Parliament: the sum to be provided out of the moneys transferred in the year 1836 to the general purposes of the University from the funds of the University Press."

March 26.-In a Convocation holden on Saturday last, the Vice-Chancellor nominated F. C. Plumptre, D.D. Master of University College, to be one of the ProVice-Chancellors for the remainder of the academical year, in the room of the Lord Bishop of Chichester.

April 2-Yesterday, Mr. Drummond Percy Chase, B.A. of Oriel College, and

Mr. Arthur Hugh Clough, B.A. Scholar of Balliol College, were elected and admitted Probationary Fellows of Oriel Coll.

St. Mary's Hall.-The Trustees of the Scholarships founded in this University by Thomas Dyke, formerly of Kingston, in the county of Somerset, Doctor of Medicine, are desirous of appointing a Scholar to fill up a vacancy therein.

On the first day of Easter Term, the following degrees were conferred :MASTERS OF ARTS. Manuel John Johnson, Magdalene Hall, Rancliffe Observer, grand compounder. George Shand, Queen's College.

Pembroke College.-An election to a Scholarship on the foundation of Richard Whitwick, B.D., will take place on Saturday, May 14. Candidates must be either of the name or kin of the founder.-A Cutler-Boulter Scholarship and a Bible Clerkship will be filled up the same day.

April 16.-At a meeting of the Heads of colleges, holden on Tuesday, the Rev. Andrew Grant, B.C.L., late Fellow of New College, was chosen to preach Canon Bampton's Lectures for the year 1843. Yesterday, Mr. W. E. Dickson Carter, Scholar of New College, was admitted an actual Fellow of that society.

Magdalen College. A fellowship is vacant in this college, which will be filled up on the festival of St. James the Apostle. Candidates must be natives of Northamptonshire, and graduates of the university.

Exeter College.-There will be an examination at this college on Monday, May 9th, preparatory to the election to two scholarships, one of which is limited to the sons of clergymen of the county of Somerset, under nineteen years of age, with preference to the kindred of the founder, the Rev. Thomas Howe; the other is open to all persons above the age of sixteen, and under the degree of B.A.

St. John's College. -Three founder's kin fellowships are vacant in this college, and will be filled up on the 27th of June.
