Kate Greenaway, who drew this picture and wrote these verses, was an English artist. She was born in 1846, and died in 1901. She painted many beautiful pictures, but she loved best to draw children. Her pictures of children are famous; no one has better expressed in pictures the love of children and the beauty and charm of childhood.

Observe this picture carefully. What are the children doing? Where are they? What objects do you see in the picture? How many boats? What time of day is it? Do you know any other pictures by Kate Greenaway?

There are now many attractive pictures and verses made for children. How do you like the pictures in this book? Among the best collections of verse for children are Stevenson's Child's Garden of Verses, Field's With Trumpet and Drum, and Sherman's Little Folks' Lyrics.
