MATTHEW XVI.

self, and take up his cross, 25 and follow me. For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake, shall 26 find it. For what is a man

profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of man shall

come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. 28 Verily I say unto you, there be some standing here which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother; and bringeth them up into a high moun2 tain apart. And he was transfigured before them, and his face did shine as the sun; and his raiment was white as 3 the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus; Lord, it is good for us to be here; if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and 5 one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them ; and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said; "This is my beloved Son, in whom

And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias, with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus; Master, it is good for us to be here ; and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 6 For he wist not what to say;

an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter, and John, and James, and went up into 29 a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and 30 glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Eli31 as; who appeared in glory, and

which he should accomplish 32 at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep. And when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33 And it came to pass as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus; Master,

I am well pleased; hear ye 6 him." And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were 7 afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said; Arise, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no 9 man, save Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying; Tell the vision to no man, until the Son 1 of man be risen again from o the dead. And his disciples asked him, saying; Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? 11 And Jesus answered and said unto them; Elias truly shall first come, and restore 12 all things; but I say unto you, that Elias is come al ready, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed, Likewise shall also the Son 13 of man suffer of them. 13 Then the disciples understood, that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

overshadowed them; and al voice came out of the cloud ; This is my beloved Son; hear him. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them, that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. And they asked him, saying; Why say the scribes that Elias must first come? And he answered and told them Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. But I say unto you, that Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias; not knowing what he said. 34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them; and they feared as they entered into 35 the cloud. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying; "This is my belov36 ed Son; hear him." And

when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had

of the multitude answered and said; Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit. 18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him; and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away. And I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out, and they could not.

Ther came the disciples to Jesus 19 apart, and said; Why could Po not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them; Because of your unbelief. For verily I say unto you, if ye 20 have faith as a grain of mus tard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain; Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out, but by prayer and fasting.

He answereth, and saith unto them; O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. And they brought him unto him. And when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming. And he asked his father; How long is it ago, since this came unto him? and he said; Of a child; and ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him; but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help

Jesus said unto him; If thou canst believe; all things are possible to him 24 that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears; I believe; help thou 25 mine unbelief. When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him ;
