LUKE XXII.

And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. 61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him; Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny 62 me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

63

And the men that held Jesus, mocked him, and 64 smóte him; and when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying; Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? 65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

swered him; I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither all the Jews resort, and in secret have I said nothing; why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them; behold, they 22 know what I said. And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by, struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying; Answerest thou the 23 high priest so? Jesus answered him; If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why 24 smitest thou me? Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and the chief priests, and the 25 scribes came together, and led him into their council, 67 saying; If thou art the Christ, tell us. And he said unto them; If I tell you ye will 68 not believe; and if I also

ask you, ye will not answer 69 me, nor let me go. Hereaf

said; What need we any further witness? For we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

-And Simon Peter stood and warmed hiníself. They said therefore unto him; Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said; I am not. One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith; Did not I see thee in the garden with him? Peter then denied again; and immediately the cock crew.

MATTHEW XXVI.

Surely thou also art one of 70 them; for thy speech be74 wrayeth thee. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying; I know not the man. And immediately the cock 75 crew. And Peter remem-71 bered the words of Jesus, which said unto him; Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he 72 went out, and wept bitterly.

27 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put 2 him to death. And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

little after, they that stood

ly thou art one of them; for
thou art a Galilean, and thy
speech agreeth thereto. But
he began to curse and to
swear, saying; I know not
this man of whom ye speak.
And the second time the
cock crew. And Peter call-
ed to mind the word that
Jesus said unto him ; Before
the cock crow twice, thou
shalt deny me thrice. And
when he thought thereon, he
wept.

morning the chief priests
held a consultation with the
elders and scribes, and the
whole council, and bound
Jesus, and carried him away,
and delivered him to Pi-
late.

MATTHEW XXVII.

Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the 4 thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying; I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. 5 And they said; What is that to us? see thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and depart6 ed; and went and hanged himself. And the chief

priests took the silver pieces, and said; It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying; "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value, 10 and gave them for the potter's field; as the Lord appointed me.'

Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. Then Pilate entered into the judgment-hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him; Art thou the King of 34 the Jews? Jesus answered him; Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell 35 it thee of me? Pilate answered; Am I a Jew? thine own nation and the chief priests, have delivered thee unto me; what hast thou 36 done? Jesus answered; My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now is my kingdom not 37 from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him ; Art thou a king then? Jesus answered; Thou sayest truth; for I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my
