MDCCXXXV. 1 PREFACE HE fubftance of this effay was tranfcribed for the prefs before the author had feen a book published last year, in tituled: A profeffion of catholic faith, extracted out of the council of Trent, by pope Pius IV, and now in use for the reception of converts into the church; with the chief grounds of the controverted articles, by way of question and anfwer. A treatise, levelled directly against the creed of pope PIUS, would very probably have been cenfured, if it had come abroad without taking notice of a new vindication of the fame creed. It was therefore for a long time thrown afide, through want of health and leifure to make the necessary infertions. To have followed the author of that piece, in every quotation from Scripture, would have very much fwelled this work |
