4 But O! when that last conflict 's o'er, And I am chained to flesh no more, With what glad accents shall I rise To join the music of the skies!
5 Soon shall I learn the exalted strains Which echo o'er the heavenly plains; And emulate, with joy unknown, The glowing seraphs round thy throne.
Concert of Praise. Ps. 148.
1 BEGIN, my soul, the exalted lay, Let each enraptured thought obey; And praise the Almighty's name: Lo! heaven, and earth, and seas, and skies, In one melodious concert rise
To swell the inspiring theme.
2 Ye deeps, with roaring billows rise, To join the thunders of the skies, Praise him who bids you roll; His praise in softer notes declare, Each whispering breeze of yielding air, And breathe it to the soul.
3 Wake, all ye soaring throngs, and sing, Ye cheerful warblers of the spring; Harmonious anthems raise
To him who shaped your finer mould, Who tipped your glittering wings with gold, And tuned your voice to praise.
4 Let man, by nobler passions swayed, The feeling heart, the judging head, In heavenly praise employ; Spread the Creator's name around,
Till heaven's broad arch ring back the sound, The general burst of joy.
Universal Praise. Ps. 148.
1 LET every creature join
To praise the eternal God; Ye heavenly hosts, the song begin, And sound his name abroad.
2 Thou sun with golden beams, And moon with paler rays, Ye starry lights, ye twinkling flames, Shine to your Maker's praise.
3 He built those worlds above, And fixed their wondrous frame; By his command they stand or move, And ever speak his name.
4 Ye vapors, when ye rise,
Or fall in showers or snow,
Ye thunders, murmuring round the skies, His power and glory show.
5 Wind, hail, and flashing fire, Agree to praise the Lord,
When ye in dreadful storms conspire To execute his word.
6 By all his works above His honors be exprest;
But saints that taste his saving love Should sing his praises best.
All Creatures invoked to praise God. Ps. 148. 1 PRAISE the Lord! ye heavens, adore him; Praise him, angels in the height; Sun and moon, rejoice before him; Praise him, all ye stars of light!
2 Praise the Lord, for he hath spoken; Worlds his mighty voice obeyed; Laws which never can be broken, For their guidance he hath made.
3 Praise the Lord, for he is glorious; Never shall his promise fail; God hath made his saints victorious, Sin and death shall not prevail.
4 Praise the God of our salvation, Hosts on high his power proclaim; Heaven and earth, and all creation, Praise and magnify his name!
Universal Praise. Ps. 148.
1 YE boundless realms of joy, Exalt your Maker's fame; His praise your song employ Above the starry frame;
Your voices raise, Ye cherubim And seraphim,
To sing his praise.
2 Thou moon, that rul'st the night, And sun, that guid'st the day, Ye glittering stars of light, To him your homage pay. His praise declare,
Ye heavens above, And clouds that move In liquid air.
3 Let them adore the Lord, And praise his holy name, By whose almighty word They all from nothing came: And all shall last From changes free: His firm decree Stands ever fast.
4 United zeal be shown, His wondrous fame to raise. Whose glorious name alone Deserves our endless praise. Earth's utmost ends His power obey: His glorious sway The sky transcends.
The Universal Hallelujah. Ps. 150.
1 PRAISE, O praise the name divine, Praise him at the hallowed shrine; Let the firmament on high To its Maker's praise reply.
2 All who vital breath enjoy, In his praise that breath employ, And in one great chorus join; Praise, O praise the name divine.
David's Ascription of Praise. 1 Chron. 29: 10.
1 BLEST be our everlasting Lord,
Our Father, God and King!
Thy sovereign goodness we record,
Thy glorious power we sing.
2 By thee the victory is given; The majesty divine,
And strength and might and earth and heaven, And all therein, is thine.
3 The kingdom, Lord, is thine alone, Who dost thy right maintain, And high on thy eternal throne O'er men and angels reign.
4 Riches, as seemeth good to thee, Thou dost and honor give; And kings their power and dignity Out of thy hand receive.
