The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

a See on Luke iv. ver. 18. clause 2. The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God," neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him, Deut. xviii. 15 -18.

VER. 26.

Jesus saith unto her, a I that speak unto thee am he.

a Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe | on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee, John ix. 35-37. Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ, Matt. xvi. 20.

VER. 27.

Καὶ ἐπὶ τούτῳ ἦλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐθαύμασαν ὅτι μετὰ γυναικὸς ἐλάλει οὐδὲις μέντοι εἶπε· Τί ζητεῖς, ἢ, τί λαλεῖς μετ ̓ αὐτῆς ;

And upon this came his disciples, and

A. D. 30. marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

a The Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans, ver. 9.

VER. 28.

will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me, John v. 30. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day, vi. 38-40.

I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do, John xvii. 4. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost, xix. 30. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost, Luke xix. 10. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God, Heb. xii. 2.

VER. 35.

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

a Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few, Matt. ix. 37. and Luke x. 2.

VER. 36.

And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers tobandry, ye are God's building, 1 Cor. gether with God: ye are God's husii. 619.

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judæa, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand, Matt. iii. 1, 2. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judæa, and all the region round about Jordan. And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins, 5, 6. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease among the people, iv. 23.

VER. 39.

And many of the Samaritans of that city believel on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him, ver. 28-30.

VER. 40.

Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast for they also went unto the feast.

And Jesus went about all Gali

lee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria : and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy ;

and he healed them. And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judæa, and from beyond Jordan, Matt. iv. 23-25.

bAnd the Jews' Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting : And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: and both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever be saith unto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew ;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine, and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
