tified by the faith of Christ, and not
by the works of the law: for by the
works of the law shall no flesh be jus-
tified, Gal. ii. 16. For as many as
are of the works of the law, are under
the curse: for it is written, Cursed is
every one that continueth not in all
things which are written in the book of
the law to do them. But that no man
is justified by the law in the sight of
God, it is evident: for, The just shall
live by faith. And the law is not of
faith: but, The man that doeth them
shall live in them, iii. 10–12. And
every priest standeth daily minister-
ing, and offering oftentimes the same
sacrifices, which can never take away
sins, Heb. x. 11.

VER. 40.

Βλέπετε οὖν μὴ ἐπέλθῃ ἐφ' ὑμᾶς τὸ εἰρημένον ἐν τοῖς προφήταις·

Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;

Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet; and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding-place. And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night; and it shall be a vexation only Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι τοὺς ὄχλους, to understand the report. bBy whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God, Rom. v. 2. ̓Ακούοντα δὲ τὰ ἔθνη ἔχαιρον, καὶ ἐδόξαζον τὸν λόγον τοῦ Κυρίου· καὶ ἐπίστευσαν ὅσοι ἦσαν τεταγμένοι, εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον.

And when the Gentiles heard this,

But God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace, in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them, Eph. ii. 4 10. But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth; Whereunto he called you by our Gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 Thess. ii, 13, 14. See also on John vi. ver. 37. clauses 1, 2.

bAnd I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do, Acts xxii. 10. And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening, xxviii. 23. Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them, Matt. xxvii. 16. The powers that be are ordained of God, Rom. xiii. 1.
