VER. 45.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

[How can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things, Matt. xii. 34, 35.]

VER. 46.

Τί δέ με καλεῖτε, Κύριε, Κύριε· καὶ οὐ ποιεῖτε ἃ λέγω ;

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

a Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And

then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity, Matt. vii. 21-23. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not, xxv. 11, 12.

VER. 47.

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

[Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, Matt. vii. 24.]

VER. 48.

a He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

[I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock : And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock, Matt. vii. 24, 25.]

a See on Matt. vii. ver. 24, 25.

VER. 49.

a But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

[And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
