The pleasures earth can yield, are naught
When once compared with this,

Whose beauteous waves surround the soul

With seas of heavenly bliss.

HAPPY are they, and they alone,
Who from their infancy have known
The goodness of the Lord;

The sweetness of his yoke they know
The one thing needful here below,
The blessings of his word.
The fading pleasures of this earth,
However great, are nought in worth
To those celestial joys,

Which to his faithful servant's heart,
Jesus in mercy doth impart,

A never-fading prize.

And when this frail, frail life is o'er,
Jesus displays his saving power,

And bids their spirit rise

Unto those happy realms above,

Prepar'd for those who know his love,

Beyond the azure skies.

How bountiful and tender is the Lord!

Happy the children taught his yoke to bear; Not all the precious things earth may afford,

Can with the sweetness of his love compare.
