OF THE

MAINE STATE LIBRARY.

Books may be taken from the Library by the Governor; Members of the Council, Senate, and House of Representatives; Heads of Departments; Judges of the Judicial Courts; Secretary and Members of the Board of Education, and the Superintendent of the Insane Hospital.

The privilege to the Members of the Legislature, Board of Education and its Secretary, is limited to the time they may be in session. No person shall be permitted to have charged against him, upon the Librarian's books, more than three volumes at any one time, nor shall be suffered to retain the same more than three weeks.

No law works (excepting those of the State of Maine), nor books presented by the United States or any other State, or received through Vattemare's Exchange, shall be taken from the Library, except for the use of the two Houses and the Committees at the Committee Rooms during their sessions.

Every person shall be answerable for all damages done by him to any book; and in case of the loss of any volume belonging to any set, he shall procure a new volume or pay the value of the set.

Actions for the loss or damage of any book may be brought by the Secretary of State, in his own name, for the use of the State.
