For nation fhall rife against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there fhall be earthquakes in divers places, and there fhall be famines, and troubles: a these are the beginnings of (1) forrows. 9. But take heed to your felves: for they shall deliver you up to Councils; and in the fynagogues ye fhall be beaten, and ye fhall be brought before rulers and kings for my fake, for a teftimony against them. 10. And the gofpel muft first be published among all nations. when they fhall lead you,and deliver you up, take no thought before hand what ye fhall fpeak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatfoever fhall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that fpeak, but the holy Ghoft. Now the brother fhall betray the brother to death, and the father the fon and children fhall rife up against their parents, and fhall caufe them to be put to death. 13. And ye fhall be hated of all men for my names fake: but he that fhall endure unto the end, the fame fhall be faved. 14. But when ye fhall fee the abomination of defolation, fpoken of by Daniel the Prophet, ftanding where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand) then let them which be in Judea, flee to the mountains: 15. And let him that is on the house-top, not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house.

For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his fervants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. 35. Watch ye therefore, (for ye know not when the master of the house cometh; at even, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning.) 36. Left coming fuddenly, he find you fleeping. 37. (1) It may feem ftrange that the Son of God, who is faid to know all Things, who is ordained to be Judge of the World, and in whom are all the Treasures of Wisdom and Knowledge, fhould not know the Time of the future Judgment. To account for this Difficulty, Expofitors have gone feveral Ways; but that which appears to me molt reafonable, is Arch-Bishop Tillerfon's, in his Sermon on this Text, Vol 9. p. 273. namely, by diftinguishing between our Lord's Humane Nature and Divine; after which he fays: And though as God he could not be ignorant of any thing, yet his Humane Understanding did not know it. And it is not unreafonable to fuppofe, that the Divine Wisdom which dwelt in our Saviour, did communicate it felf to his humane Soul according to his Pleasure; and fo his humane Nature might at fome times not know fome Things. And if this be not admitted, how can we understand that Paffage concerning Saviour, Luk. 2. 52. that Jefus grew in Wisdom and Stature?

our

the Word may more fitly be Tranflated, in Age, and in Favour with God and Man. For if the humane Nature in Chrift did neceffarily know all Things by Virtue of its Union with the Divinity, he could not then, as Man, be faid to grow in Wisdom.

And being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he fat at meat, there came a woman, having an alabafter-box of ointmeat of *fpikenard [Or, pure nard, or, liquid nard], very precious; and the brake the box, and poured it on his head. And there were fome that had indignation within themselves, and faid, Why was this wafte of the ointment made? 5. For it might have been fold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. 6. And Jefus faid, Let her alone, why trouble ye her? fhe hath wrought a good work on me. 7. For ye have the poor with you you always, and whenfoever ye will, ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. 8.
