f into the Sea, to fwim firft to him. Both the Jews and Romans hen they speak of a Perfon's being Naked, mean, his having only a n, or fome linen Garment, or other inner Clothing next his Skin, at he was abfolutely naked without any Covering at all. They therelled him naked who had put off his Gown or outward Garment. Senfe, I conceive, the Command of God to Ifaiah, Chap. 23. 2, 3. naked and barefoot for three Years is to be understood. For is it to agined that God, who would not fuffer that his Altar, Exod. 20. 26. be made to go up by Steps, left the Nakedness of his People fhould covered thereon, would command the Prophet to go publickly nathout any Covering whatfoever for the Space of three Years? Nor being ordered to put off his Sackcloth, an Argument that he was naked; for though Sackcloth was worn next the Skin in Times of iliation, it might notwithstanding be worn on the like Occasions outward Garment too. In this Sense also, I fuppofe, Saul is faid, 19. 24. to have prophefied before Samuel, and to lie down naked; n this Senfe David was uncovered when he danced before the Ark, .6. 20. The Meaning is, they laid afide their Royal Robes. Of it is exprefly faid, Fer. 14. that he was girded with a linen

thou me? Peter was, grieved, because he faid unto him the third time, Loveft thou me? And he faid unto him, Lord, thou knoweft all things; thou knoweft that I love thee. Jefus faith unto him, Feed my fheep. 18. Verily verily I fay unto thee, When thou waft young, thou girdeft thy felf, and walkeft whither thou wouldft: but when thou fhalt be old, thou fhalt ftretch forth thy hands, and another fhall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldst not. 19. This fpake he, fignifying by what death he fhould glorifie God. And when he had fpoken this, he faith unto him, Follow me. 20. Then Peter turning about, feeth the difciple whom Jefus loved, following; which alfo lean of ed on his breaft at fupper, and faid, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21. Peter feeing him, faith to Jefus, Lord, and what fhall this man do? 22. Jefus faith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me: 23. Then went this faying abroad among the brethren, that that difciple fhould not die: yet Jefus faid not unto him, He fhall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? 24. This is the difciple which teftifeth of these things, and wrote thefe things: and pre we know that his teftimony is true. 25. And there are alfo many other things which Jefus did, the which if they Luk fhould be written every one, I fuppofe that even theilo, ha h world it felf could not contain the books that fhould be go written. Amen.
