SAVIOUR of the faithful dead!

With whom Thy servants dwell, Though cold and green the turf is spread Above their narrow cell.

2 No more we cling to mortal clay,
We doubt and fear no more,
Nor shrink to tread the dreary way,
Which Thou hast trod before.

3 When, soon or late, this feeble breath
No more to Thee shall
pray,
Support me through the vale of death,
And in the darksome way!

4 When, cloth'd in fleshly garb again,
I wait Thy dread decree,

1

O righteous Judge! remember, then,
That Thou hast died for me!

HYMN LXXXVII, L. M.

MY

Y God, my life! through all my days My grateful powers shall sound Thy My song shall hail the op'ning light,[praise; And wake the silence of the night.

2 When anxious cares would break my rest,
And sorrows pierce my throbbing breast,
My tuneful praises rais'd on high
Shall check the murmur and the sigh.
3 When death o'er nature shall prevail,
And all my powers of language fail,
Joy through my dizzied eyes shall break,
Texpress the thanks I cannot speak.

4 And, O! when that last conflict's o'er,
And I am chain'd to earth no more,
With what glad accents shall I rise,
To join the music of the skies!
5 I then shall hear th' exalted strains
That echo through th' ethereal plains,
And emulate, with joy unknown,
The glowing seraphs round Thy throne.
HYMN LXXXVIII.

PRAISE ye the Lord!
Prepare your glad voice

His praise in the great
Assembly to sing:

In Christ our Redeemer
Let Israel rejoice,

And children of Sion
Be glad in their King.
To Him be all prayer,
All praise be address'd,
Who came from the realms
Of glory above.

To open to sinners

The seats of the bless'd,

The God of all power,

The Lord of all love.

3

The pris'ners He came

From bonds to release

With strength of his arm,
And might of his sword:
The might that he wielded-
The Gospel of peace;
The weapon of conquest--
His merciful word.

HYMN LXXXIX.

JERU

C. M.

ERUSALEM! my happy home,
Name ever dear to me!

When shall my labours have an end
In joy, and peace, and Thee?

2 O when, thou city of my God,
Shall I thy courts ascend,
Where congregations ne'er break up,
And Sabbaths have no end?

3 There happier bowers than Eden's bloom Nor sin nor sorrow know

Bless'd seats! through rude and stormy I onward press to you.

[scenes

4 Why should I shrink at pain and woe? Or feel at death dismay?

I've Canaan's goodly land in view
And realms of endless day.

5 Apostles, Martyrs, Prophets there
Around my Saviour stand,
And soon my friends in Christ below
Will join the glorious band.

6 Jerusalem! my happy home!

My soul still pants for thee; Then shall my labours have an end When I thy joys shall see.

Concluding Hymns.

HYMN XC. L. M,

GLORY

LORY to Thee, my God, this night, For all the blessings of the light: Keep me, O keep me, King of kings, Under Thine own Almighty wings! 2 Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son, The ill that I this day have done ; That with the world, myself, and Thee, I, ere I sleep, at peace may be! 3 Teach me to live, that I may dread The grave as little as my bed; Teach me to die, that so I may With joy behold the judgment-day!

4 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. HYMN XCI. P. M.

MOST Merciful!

O most Bountiful!

God the Father Almighty!

By the Redeemer's

Blest intercession,

Hear us, help us, when we cry!

GOD,

[blocks in formation]

OD, that madest earth and heav'n,
Darkness and light;

Who the day for toil has given;
For rest, the night;

1

May Thine angel-guards defend us,
Slumber sweet Thy mercy send us,
Holy calm and peace attend us,
This live-long night!

DIS

[blocks in formation]

ISMISS us with Thy blessing, Lord,
Help us to profit by Thy word;

Our sins this holy day forgive,

And let Thy truth within us live!

2 Though we are guilty, Thou art good;
Wash all our souls in Jesu's blood;
Give ev'ry troubled soul release,
And bid us all depart in peace!

HYMN XCIV. L. M.

ALMIGHTY Father! bless the word

Which thro' Thy mercy we have heard; O may the precious seed take root, Spring up, and bear abundant fruit! 2 So may we use the means of grace, While in Thy courts we seek Thy face, That all who worship here, may meet Round Thy celestial mercy-seat!

HYMN XCV. L. M.

ETERNAL honour, endless fame,

Ascribe to God the Father's Name;

Let God, the Son, be glorified,
Who for the world's redemption died;
And equal adoration be,

O God, the Spirit, paid to Thee.
