homme qui s'appeloit Siméon; cet homme étoit juste, et craignant Dieu; il attendoit la consolation d'Israël, et le Saint Esprit étoit sur lui. 26 Et il avoit été averti divinement par le Saint Esprit, qu'il ne mourroit point qu'auparavant il n'eût vu le Christ du Seigneur. 27 I vint au temple par un mouvement de l'Esprit, et comme le père et la mère apportoient le petit enfant Jésus, pour faire à son égard ce qui étoit en usage selon la loi ; 28 Il le prit entre ses bras, et bénit Dieu, et dit: 29 Seigneur, tu laisses maintenant aller ton serviteur en paix, selon ta parole ; 30 Car mes yeux ont vu ton salut; 31 Que tu as préparé pour présenté à tous les peuples; être 32 Pour être la lumière qui doit éclairer les nations, et la gloire de ton peuple d'Israël. 33 Et Joseph et sa mère étoient dans l'admiration des choses qu'on disoit de lui. 34 Et Siméon les bénit, et dit à Marie sa mère: Voici cet enfant est mis pour être une occasion de chûte et de relèvement à plusieurs en Israël, et pour étre en butte à la contradiction; 35 En sorte que les pensées du cœur de plusieurs seront découvertes; et même une épée te transpercera l'ame. 36 Il y avoit aussi Anne la prophétesse, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d'Ascer; elle étoit fort avancée en âge, et elle avoit vécu avec son mari sept-ans, depuis qu'elle l'avoit épousé étant vierge. 37 Elle étoit veuve, âgée d'environ quatre-vingt-quatre ans, et elle ne sortoit point du temple, man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him." 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel: and for a sign which shall be spoken against: 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the tem servant Dieu nuit et jour, en jeunes et en prières. 38 Etant donc survenue en ce même instant, elle louoit aussi le Seigneur, et elle parloit de Jésus à tous ceux de Jérusalem qui attendoient la délivrance d'Israël. 39 Et après qu'ils eurent accompli tout ce qui est ordonné par la loi du Seigneur, ils retournèrent en Galilée, à Nazareth, qui étoit leur ville. 40 Cependant l'enfant croissoit, et se fortifioit en esprit, étant rempli de sagesse, et la grâce de Dieu étoit sur lui. 41 Or son père et sa mère alloient tous les ans à Jérusalem, à la fête de Pâques. 42 Et quand il eut atteint l'âge de douze ans, ils montèrent à Jérusalem, selon la coutume de la fête. 43 Lorsque les jours de la fête furent achevés, comme ils s'en retournoient, l'enfant Jésus demeura dans Jérusalem; et Joseph et sa mère ne s'en apperçurent point. 44 Mais pensant qu'il étoit en la compagnie de ceux qui faisoient le voyage avec eux, ils marchèrent une journée, et ils le cherchèrent parmi leurs parens et ceux de leur connoissance; 45 Et ne le trouvant point, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem pour l'y chercher. 46 Et au bout de trois jours ils le trouvèrent dans le temple, assis au milieu des docteurs, les écoutant, et leur faisant des questions. 47 Et tous ceux qui l'entendoient étoient ravis de sa sagesse et de ses réponses. 48 Quand Joseph et Marie le virent, ils furent étonnés; et sa mère lui dit: Mon enfant, pourquoi astu ainsi agi avec nous? Et sa mère conservoit toutes ces choses dans son cœur. 52 EtJésus croissoit en sagesse, en stature, et en grâce, devant Dieu et devant les hommes. CHAP. III. Jean-Baptiste prêchant et baptisant; JésusChrist baptisé, et sa généalogie. NOW in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene; 2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness. 3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked ront redressés, et les chemins raboteux seront aplanis; 6 Et toute chair verra le salut de Dieu. 7 Il disoit donc au peuple, qui venoit pour être baptisé par lui: Race de vipères! qui vous a appris à fuir la colère à venir? 8 Faites donc des fruits convenables à la repentance; et ne dites point en vous-mêmes: Nous avons Abraham pour père; car je vous dis, que Dieu peut faire naître de ces pierres mêmes des enfans à Abraham. 9 Or la cognée est déjà mise à la racine des arbres: Tout arbre donc, qui ne produit pas de bon fruit, va être coupé et jeté au feu. 10 Alors le peuple lui demanda: Que ferons-nous donc ? 11 Il leur répondit: Que celui qui a deux habits, en donne à celui qui n'en a point; et que celui qui a de quoi manger, en fasse de même. 12 Il vint aussi des péagers pour être baptisés, et ils lui dirent: Maître, que ferons-nous? 13 Et il leur dit: N'exigez rien au-delà de ce qui vous a été ordonné. 14 Les gens de guerre lui demandèrent aussi : Et nous, que ferons-nous? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. 15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ or not; 16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes. I am not worthy to unloose: he de ses souliers; c'est lui qui vous baptisera du Saint-Esprit et de feu. 17 Il a son van dans ses mains; il nettoiera parfaitement son aire, et il amassera le froment dans son grenier; mais il brûlera entièrement la balle au feu qui ne s'éteint point. 18 Il adressoit encore plusieurs autres exhortations au peuple, en lui annonçant l'évangile. 19 Mais Hérode le tétrarque, ayant été repris par Jean, au sujet d'Hérodias femme de Philippe son frère, et de toutes les méchantes actions qu'il avoit faites; 20 Ajouta encore à toutes les autres, celle de faire mettre Jean en prison. 21 Or comme tout le peuple se faisoit baptiser, Jésus fut aussi baptisé; et pendant qu'il prioit, le oiel s'ouvrit; 22 Et le Saint-Esprit descendit sur lui sous une forme corporelle, comme une colombe; et il vint une voix du ciel, qui dit: Tu es mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai mis toute mon affection. 23 Et Jésus étoit alors âgé d'environ trente ans, et il étoit, comme on le croyoit, fils de Joseph, fils d'Héli; 24 Fils de Matthat, fils de Lévi, fils de Melchi, fils de Janna, fils de Joseph; shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: 17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. 18 And many other things, in his exhortation, preached he unto the people. 19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done. 20 Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison. 21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him ; and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. 23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, 24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, 25 Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge, 26 Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda, 27 Which was the son of Joan |
